New 4x4 owner. If I go to larger tires what do you usually do regarding the spare? Can I use the stock spare with the taller tires? I assume my spare is 265/65/R?

I would think it is best to get a fifth larger tire but, can I use the existing stock spare to limp home when I have larger tires?

I see from here how to fit a larger tire in the stock location: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/4838-cheap-free-mods-6.html#post47335.

A smaller tire will work in a pinch, but not recommended for long drives, and def. not in the use of 4wd.

Thanks. It would be just enough to get home unless I was too far away then it would be just to a shop.

If you get bigger tires try to get a spare the same size, because you will destroy your spider gears.

i dunno man, if you get a flat on the rear of the truck in pitch black darkness on a busy highway, i wouldnt wanna waste time taking a front tire off to put on the back end and then putting the spare back up front... id wanna change the tire and get out of there asap. spend the extra cash for a same size spare, or try and find a decent condition used tire of the same dimensions. its all part of the game of vehicle modification, you gotta pay to play. DON'T cheap out!

What should I expect the rim size of my spare to be? I have 17" rims. Is the spare the same of 16". Just thought someone may know off the top of thier head. Of course, I will drop it and look before buying a matching size spare.
