Input GPS anytime

Video showing GPS input anytime. No pushing buttons. Shit won't let me upload video. How does one do this on this site?

Here is the link. But I recorded it with phone sideways and now when you watch it on you tube you have to turn the phone or look like your eating a taco. I'll work on fixing it. Let me know if it helps or you guys have the same luck I did.

When I first had it hooked up I forgot to hit the switch back to have the things greyed out. Then it started working and it has ever since. Once I have it so I can input address I do so then I go back to the GPS screen. Drive for a few miles or about 5 mins it grabs signal and works. Never touch switch again.

 

Is it a switch wired to the "speed sensing wire" in the back of the head unit?

 

Yes it is.

 

So how does one do this? I'm interested

 

will it let you do ALL of the things that are usually blocked out while driving? Pandora screen scroll down, change settings, etc?

Settings? I will make a video tomorrow and post. But yes it will let you do everything. But I will take a video and show everything.

Probably a bit confusing to create a whole new thread on the topic.

Disabling the nanny is a secondary mod to the "backup camera any time mod."

Here are two current threads with lots more info, as well as someone offering a harness that allows you to avoid cutting your truck's wiring harness:

That is what I used. I used the 28 pin adapter sold on here. Then got the switch. Wired up everything but ended up get a pulse of light when I installed the switch. I said u know I can care less about the light so I unhooked the light. So I used the the red to positive. The green to the cut wire from the harness. The blue to the other cut wire from the harness. I DID NOT use the ground. If I used the ground th light will come on. But would pulsate while driving. So I know it was get a signal from the speed sensor. While that is hooked up I don't need to ever hit the switch again. I can input address, work the phNE and change any settings while driving. All while the GPS is working while moving.

 

To those thinking about trying this - you better check your local laws about distracted driving.

In Penn you can operate a gps in a moving vehicle, other states and provinces that's now allowed. Don't be a douche bag and put your convenience above other peoples safety.

I had a close coworker killed by some dipsh!t because they were operating a dash mounted cell phone.

 

There isn't a damn thing wrong or illegal or dangerous with my wife entering a destination address in the nav system while I'm driving.

 

Chill out dude - what you describe is not distracted driving.

Good that your wife accompanies you on all or most of your trips, but if you are using the OP's videos as an example, he was driving and operating the GPS.

 

What's the difference between that or changing the radio station?

 

Exactly, my point being not to assume everyone who does the mod will use the nav unit in a dangerous manner. Your post was kinda preachy.
