3.4L V6 5 Speed Manual Flywheels?

    are there any ills with using a genuine Toyota OEM flywheel to replace original flywheel
    the MSRP cost is obscene but is the quality different from the other?

    Good point! The new, not rebuilt, Nippondenso starter I installed with the LUK flywheel/Aisin clutch kit was only a little over $100 from Rockauto: More Information for PURE ENERGY 17672N (rockauto.com). And I kept the original OEM Denso starter for a spare. Pulling the tranny is a giant PIA which nobody wants to do unless necessary. I would also throw a new starter on before pulling the tranny. If a new or reman starter doesn't fix the problem, then it would be time to pull everything apart to see what is wrong.

    A new OEM flywheel is the best replacement available for most applications IMO. But as you stated, the price is prohibitive. A serviceable OEM flywheel that has been correctly resurfaced would be my second choice with aftermarket flywheels being a distant 3rd choice. I have no complaints with the aftermarket LUK flywheel I installed. But I will eventually get my original OEM flywheel correctly resurfaced to have as a spare.

    That's an aftermarket Chinese starter. The listings on Rock say "Family: Nippondenso" regardless of brand because that's the style of starter it is. Pure Energy doesn't sell new OEM. The genuine Denso starters are at the bottom of the reman section for $150+.

    There is little reason to buy someone else's OEM reman when I can just change the brushes, when needed, in my original OEM which still works fine. That is the nice thing about buying new vs reman; you do not have to return your high-quality OEM core. And the aftermarket Nippondenso starter I linked has worked well for me. If and when it gives me trouble, I will post about it here: Replacement Starter and Alt: Rebuild OEM Denso or New Nippondenso? | Tacoma World.

    As for not liking parts made in CHINA, Toyota has been sourcing their OEM parts world-wide for several years (below). Don't get me wrong. I still prefer to use JAPAN parts whenever available, especially bearings and seals.

    Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    I have used many different fly wheels with no problem

    The only problem I ever had is the Turbo fly wheel the guide pins are positioned different I received one boxed wrong.

    Starter drives do fail. Maybe just bad timing ??

    I have a few starters on the shelf buying Toyota remans and eating the core charge works for me.

    When you responded to Bivouac's question to Squeaky Penguin on the previous page, I mistakenly thought you were the one having starter trouble.

    But to your point, the reman Densos on Rock are remanufactured by Denso, so you're still getting an OEM starter. And you can keep your old one for the cost of a core charge. Just sayin'.

    Starter buzzes/grinds against the flywheel.

    A) I never once had this problem with the flywheel I removed.
    B) I took the starter out, cleaned/greased it, and checked that the bendix fully extends, and saw no issues.

    The problem has to be the flywheel.

    And you are correct in saying it. Just realize that Denso remans parts world-wide. US, Mexico, China, are just the places I remember offhand. The early, very desirable Denso reman 210-0461 105A alternator was reman'd right here in the US. The last batch I saw was reman'd in CHINA. What I am doing now by choice is testing these new, not reman'd, Nippondenso starters/alternators to see if they are worth --it or not. So far, so good. And I still have the original high-quality OEM parts as spares to be rebuilt if needed. We are on the same page, no sweat.

    Good luckMaybe you received the wrong fly wheel that has happened.

    Curious to see how this plays out.

    If the manufacturer replaces the product.

    So the bevel is on the opposite side of the tooth between the Luk and Exedy. There's also several spots where you can see the contact.


    New Luk on the left, Exedy causing me problems on the right.
