About to order some 5100's for the rear and I'm seeing two different pairs of numbers. One pair is 33247724 and 33247717. The other pair is F4-BE5-D559-T0 and D560. Bilstein Lifts sells both pairs and advertises them at slightly different lengths. They are also different prices.

    Bilstein 5100 1-1.5" Rear Lift Shocks for 1995-2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD (bilsteinlifts.com)

Bilstein 0-2.5" Lift Rear Shocks 1995-2004 Toyota Tacoma (bilsteinlifts.com)

Wheelers advertises the second group of part numbers as 5100's. It's a little confusing, as they seem to be slightly different products.

I went with these versions (33247724 & 33247717) a couple years ago - I went straight to Bilstein's site for part numbers. I vaguely remember reading about this discrepancy on TW once. I think the other versions don't come with bellows and there are probably other differences I am forgetting.

Left and right rears are different lights, albeit slightly.

I replaced my front shocks with Bilstein 6112's, supposed to be set at 1.75" of lift. I also replaced my rear leafs with a heavier duty set of leaf springs from a local company. Truck is definitely higher in the rear but I don't know how much lift those springs gave me as I didn't take a measurement before, plus the old leafs were so shot that i don't think a measurement would have been that useful. I'm getting 37 1/4 and 37 1/2 from the floor with 265/70/16's. How much lift is that?

Honestly never heard of the 1-1.5" 5100's for Tacomas. I've only ever seen the 1-3" ones. Having a 1/2" range of applicable lifts seems like a waste

The ones in your first link are out of stock, anyway.

In other words, the D559/60s are probably what you want anyway.

Either way, you need a set of add-a-leafs or an extended shackle for them to work.

The D559/60 are what I have with 1.5-2" lift. Their side specific and have difference travel distance. Theres also 5125s.

I don't understand why I need add a leafs or an extended shackle for them to work. Bilstein lifts says they are fine using them for stock height and my truck is definitely sitting higher than stock height due to the replacement leaf pack that I have. This is where I get confused. There are so many different parts choices for these trucks, making sure everything can work together that way it should is frustrating - for me anyway. At a quick glance rear shocks on these trucks look super easy to replace. Am i missing something?

After a little more research the first part number is the Bilstein 5100, and the second part number is the RCD Bilstein 5100. Bilstein doesn't list the RCD version on their website. I wonder if there is a difference in the valving or relative stiffness?

It's probably not higher than stock- it's more likely to just be higher than the old sagged springs you replaced. Your new springs will settle, as well.

The shocks are extremely simple to replace. 2 bolts, top and bottom. Just don't over torque the bolts on the way back in. I used to take mine on and off before and after wheeling (before I did a shock relocation) and fubared one of the upper mounts. They are a pain to get a helicoil in there, but possible.

So the 1st Gen Tacomas have side-specific 5100s. Why? It's intended to compensate for travel characteristics when you shim/level the truck to compensate for the additional weight of the fuel tank on that side. However, the same part number will work on both sides and the layman wouldn't know the difference. It pretty much comes down to do you want more up-travel or more down-travel? All said, we haven't seen a shipment of the "right side" ones come in for over 6 months... So I hope you like the characteristics of the left ones . That said, the "left side" 724s are the shorter of the two so your uptravel concerns are lessened. Either way, since you have an unknown leaf pack that is providing some lift you'll want to make sure that you test out your uptravel to make sure you're finding the bumpstop before the shock. You can use a shock as a limiting strap, but not a bumpstop!

It’s for the shocks to work as designed.
They are easy to replace. If you need to compress them you can use a ratchet strap.

The D559-560s (L&R) are the ORIGINAL Bilstein 5100's that were sold exclusively by Race Car Dynamics and are listed at having a 1.5"-3" lift over stock depending on application. The other part numbers are the regular Bilstein 5100s 33-247724 (L) and -247717 (R) are listed as giving 1-1.5" of lift. There are also two versions of the 5100s for the front as well. They have different parts if I remember correctly. One having a metal stopper on the shaft and the other having a plastic dust shield. I think their might have been something different about the valving, but I'm not certain.
