Forever I just figured that my 2004 double cab just did not have a glove box light. Low and behold, I do. I just doesn't work. I got the little grate style cover off and tried to gently pry the bulb out. No luck. Owners manual doesn't say anything about it.

    I searched here without luck.

Google search says to remove the glove box and access the bulb housing from behind and that it takes a #74 (very small) bulb.

    Questions:

Is this accurate? How do I best change this bulb?

Is there an LED replacement that works? The rest of the interior has LEDs and I'd like to keep it the same.

    Thanks

I just added a LED strip to the top of the glove box and wired it to the bulb socket. It works great. Will post pics later.

This seriously made me laugh because I did the same thing about a month ago...I was like WTF!?!?! I've got a glove box light! Haha.
I used a pair of needle nose pliers and without crushing the bulb, pulled it out of the socket (I did not take the glove box all apart) I simply replaced with a #74 LED and Oila! Let there be light. It was seriously like Xmas had come early.

No way my 98 has a glove box light. Where would it be located?

When you open the glove box and look at the inside, top , about a third to the left, there is a small circular grill, about quarter sized. There is a small bulb in there, which apparently for just about everyone that I have talked to does not work anymore. Mine is a 02, so I am not sure if it was added later and if the 98 will have it.

I promised to post pics - will try to get to it tonight.

    Just checked.

    Mine does not have it.

There is a hole cut out with nothing behind it, and a rectangular shaped panel which looks like it can be removed.

Mine was also burned out, I did the same as taco47001 and just used pliers to pull it out gently and then put in a new one. No need to disassemble anything.

My 99 TRD SR5 with low fuel/washer fluid lights, had the glove box lamp harness with a connector but no bulb or socket. I just made up my own socket and used one of those nylon 1 screw cable clamps as the mount. A little square of red stage gel and good to go. The light comes on with the running/parking lights and does not dim with the other dash lights.
Remove the GB door and the "roof" panel of the GB to check for the harness.
    Many trucks have it.

Yeah I figure the wiring is back there because the hole I have in the roof of the glove box looks similar to the corner light holes which a socket is inserted and twisted into place.

One more thing to look for, I suppose.
