My 2015 makes a noise like something is still spinning for a moment after I shut it down. My 2007 never did this. Is this normal?

I figured I'd maybe go to a dealer and see if other new trucks do it but just thought I'd check here first as I don't really have any dealers conveniently located for me here.

    Thanks

It is Toyota's LAME air pump that makes your truck sound like a pile of crap! I know I have a 2014.

My 2014 sounds like a braying donkey exhaling its last breath. I've gotten used to it now, but it makes other people snicker.

    A few possibilities:

Exhaust air injection pump - added to '12+ V6 models
Electric brake pressure pump - added to '09+ TRD Off Road models (enables A-Trac)
Fuel tank charcoal canister extraction - been there since '05?

As mentioned above, it's the smog pump. My '08 does not have it. The '12 patrol truck does. My '77 had a belt driven smog pump.

Thanks for the replies guys. I figured it was probably ok since it's a brand new truck, but you never know. :)

I like it, it turns on when you start her up too. Kinda whines for a few seconds. Quirks man, its all about personality.

This is one of a few noises that I noticed right away on my new truck. Luckily, a quick search of TW showed me it was nothing to worry about. I do get some weird looks from my coworkers when I pull up to work and shut the car down. I have yet to hear another vehicle do something like this.

Now I just need to figure out if my other little noises are normal or now.

You might like it until the damn thing breaks, and costs you over $1000 to have it repaired.

The pump lists for $760, but you can get it at online shops such as Village Toyota for $600 and install it yourself. http://www.villagetoyotaparts.com/products/TOYOTA/2012/Tacoma4000CC-24-VALVE-DOHC-EFI--AUTOMATIC-5-SPEED/PUMP-ASSY--AIR-MARK-17610-0W020-MEXICO-SPEC-MARK-17610-0W020/8440740/176100W020.html

Note the same pump (same P/N) has been in use on the 4-cyl since 2005. No complaints so far over the last decade. :notsure:

Well shit, might as well throw the whole thing away by that logic. Fuck it, my girl is going to get old and saggy too, time for her to go as well.
