The app for the android is great (Torque) and monitors the same sensors as the ones mentioned earlier. Iphone uses the DashCommand app. Your smartphone will have a better display than the gauges mentioned and I believe the display is a bit more customizable. The software/app of the android and iphone will continue to upgrade along with the tech in our trucks so it won't become outdated (not saying the SG/UG will). Plus its cheaper than both!

Ultragauge I had didn't show trans temp and Thats very important to me.

Scangauge only shows 4 parameters at a time (lame)

Torque didn't have trans temp, and the Bluetooth dongle was always drawing power.

Really..... Just gimme the trans temp option on the ug and I'll buy another happily.

As it is the scangauge will only show 1 trans temp for my truck (2006) and I dont know if its pan or converter.



Curious how accurate ANY plug in scanners Horsepower calculations are.

 

You can add the trans temp to the Torque app, its not a default setting.


In the settings you can add various sensors, trans temp being one of them. This is only for automatic transmissions though, I do not believe the manuals have trans temp sensors.


Also, I saw a write up somewhere on TW on how to get the dongle to turn off with the truck.

iPhone users can use the Engine Link app to monitor sensors, including transmission temps.

 

Do these things show CELs, or will it help show you what is triggering a CEL?
I know you can run the code, but when it gives you 6 different possibilities, kind of hard to narrow it down without dumping money at part store.

 

Buy yourself a factory service manual and follow the troubleshooting steps. They list step by step instructions what to test for and how. Don't just keep buying parts until our solves the problem.

To answer your question it will not tell you the cause of the issue. It well only give you the trouble code.

 

Where is everyone mounting the UG? It seems the SC is a little easier to mount and not stick out. I have a 08 reg cab and was thinking about getting the UG but the more i look into it, the harder it is to conceal.

 

the Ultra gauge shows a lot of stuff.its neat to play with but really,i only use the engine temperature gauge,and the tach.

1st I mainly use my Ultragauge for gas mileage. I do a lot of traveling and accurate gas consumption knowledge is a good thing.

I love the calibration feature. I already have it to an accuracy of .2 gal on a fillup.

The MPG of the UG is resettable by the user when the user wants. I contacted SG and the ability to have one MPG reading over a multi-day trip was not possible, no problem with the UG.

The UG gives me something I have wanted since my 96 Chrysler T&C bit the dust. A distance to empty reading. I also have a digital fuel level reading. These two with a modern GPS allows me to quickly decide whether to try to make a city which is 170 miles away without filling up. (Gasbuddy says the gas is much cheaper there) When the UG says 150 to empty, I am going to stop for a couple of gallons and then go.

My vehicle is a 2011 Tacoma. I don't know if it is typical, but the speedometer is off about 5%. At a speedometer reading of 70 I am actually going 66-67. Today I reconfigured my UG to show MPH and guess what. The computer readout is dead on. I have contacted UG and if I can hook up a second UG with a OBD Y splitter, I am going to get a second one and use Velcro to mount it directly over the Speedometer with a 4 gauge page display.

These are some of my reasons that I love my UG.

 

Can you adjust it to tell you your actual mpgs with bigger tires and lift done?

I have had mine about a year and I also do the manual calc at the pump every week..seems to be 2 miles over on the UG.

 

Thanks. Just trying to gather as much info as I can. Is there a detailed write up or instructions how to change stuff on it for bigger tires and lifts or is the instructions it comes with pretty cut and dry?
