If you have limited slip diff you will need to add limited slip additives.
Seeing as you have an 08' you most likely have the mechanical lsd.
Crawl under the bed and look on the the rear diff and see if you have an LSD sticker.
If so you need to use the additive.

    90w above 0 degrees F'

    80w or 80w-90 below 0 degrees F'

Go to the link below to see a puck of the sticker.

Here are the manual for you truck.
    http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pa....portlet.action=processRequest#Owners-Manuals

You need this manual. It has the type and weight oil your truck needs.
But I all ready did the work for you above.

I just did this service to my Tacoma.
I used Mobil 1 synthetic and a bottle of additive.

If you have a button above the electric mirror switch marked RR Diff Lock, then use the additive.
Great YouTube videos available to walk you through the process and also Chris 4x4 did a great write up on here.

I have been using Redline synthetic gear oil in mine for quite a while. No complaints here.

Save money and just use your store brand oil they have to meet the gl5 rating.

For rear diff I was always told not to use synthetic but to use regular and add an LSD additive. Front diff and transfer case are okay to use synthetic. Dont ask me why but I learned this years ago on TW so thats why I followed their write-up.

I used Mobil1 75-90 with additive. My diff. is marked with a LSD sticker. I noticed smoother operation, better acceleration, 5mpg, and at least 20hp.
    J/K I did notice smoother operation:thumbsup:

You have an 08 Sport, which has mechanical LSD, so you'll need the additive even if you don't see the sticker underneath. Better safe than sorry. As for the RR button, not really relevant to you as that's for the Off-Road Edition. (Which doesn't require the additive).

So does the regular GL gear oil with additive work with factory LSD? I always used the OEM stuff,it's like $65 a pint and it takes 3!

Yes. BTW you don't have a true LSD in your 2014 so....... regular dino oil with or without additive is fine. Shit I didn't even think you could by the shit without it having additive in it anymore.

I'm going to switch my gear oil out soon. I have the same 08 sport with the mechanical lsd diff. I read that a few users ran redline 75w90 synthetic that has the additive in the oil, and never used additional additive, and had a smooth engagement in the diff. I plan to run the redline oil. I might buy a bottle of additive to have on stand by

It was for my '08 sport. I'm going to sell it soon,so no more diff fluid changes.
