Center console wiring

I am trying to add a homelink like proshoppb did here. I am getting nowhere fast on finding a wire to tap into and proshoppb doesn't answer his pm's. Does anyone have an idea of where he tapped into for a power source or do I need to run a wire from somewhere int he dash?

 

I recommend yo use the 12v source from the auxiliary power receptacle (cig lighter).

Follow these instructions to disassemble: I extended 12 volts into the rear seating area of my truck using this method. I had to nearly take apart my whole dash do it properly. It looks much worse than it really is. It was my first time doing it so I took my time and got acquainted with everything.



The split wire loom with the zip tie on it in this photo is my new 12 volt source in this picture:

(power inverter under center console / arm rest on far left )

I am sure there is a write up on how you wired your 120v receps into your console. Can you shoot me the link? That is kickass, and I am sure it would be easy if you know which wires are what.

If you read the "110 factory inverter - Always 400w" mod, make sure you go read all of the sources that Krookz cited, because there is additional info in there that I thought was helpful.

There isn't a writeup on how to extend the 12 volts, that is something I just did when I had my dash apart and I observed that there was no suitable 12v source inside the center console.

Also noteworthy was that there are cables that feed power to the inverter, but they are not powered unless the unit is powered. I used a multimeter and strangely enough the 8 gauge(ish) wire that feeds the inverter registered a fluctuating 1volt, but when the unit is powered it registers full 13.5 volts.

If the inverter had 12 volts all the time, we could just tap into power there, but I couldn't so that's why I extended it back from the cig lighter.

Perfect sense. I already added a constant 12 volt cig lighter up front, so extending will be no problem. I appreciate the input on the 110v stuff. That is what I want to add next. Thanks!!!!!!!

yes thank you, this is what i needed to know. what gauge is the 12v wire to the cig lighter and i'll pick up some taps tonight?
