High end brakes for 15-inch wheels, or 16s with Tundra break mod?

I'm starting to dial in on the suspension and wheels, but I can't make up my mind on wheel size and brakes.

I'm gonna run 33s, and like the look with 15-inch wheels. I was figuring on also getting the ECS Stage 5 kit, and possibly new calipers.

But I can't stop thinking about 16s and tundra brake mod.

I'm not sure, but image the Tundra brakes offer more stopping power, which is ultimately what I'm after ...

    What do you guys think?

Tundra brakes for sure. You can find a set of stock 16s pretty easily and for pretty cheap.

This is my exact situation. I have maybe 8-10 months to decide. Tires will need replacing then.

ATM I am thinking Tundra brake upgrade. My truck is very heavy. Last adventure, fully loaded, it weighed ~5700 lbs.

    I think so

Great thread. Looks like it can be done with 1. a junk yard set (cheapest) 2. sourcing your own new parts and fittings for ~$300 to $400 or 3. a complete kit pushing about $600 ...

The stock tundra brakes absolutely will have more stopping power. I used auto store parts for my swap and have had great luck. For the past year, up until i got my fj80 rear axle in, i have been stopping exclusively with the front brakes. No warpage and stopped great. I drilled the bottom of the tacoma banjo bolt to get them to work with the tundra calipers, and my stainless steel lines i bought for the swap sat on my shelf for 5yrs until i re purposed them for my axle swap.

Tundra brakes all the way. I was sick and tired of warping stock brakes.

Sweet. I'm gonna have to man-up and get 16 inch wheels. With armor, 33s, and a possible SC in my future, I want all the stop power I can get ...

typically a larger disc will provide better stopping power than high powered calipers... geometry beats engineering/hydrolics...
