Power inverter goes for both sport and off road. E-locker is probably the quickest and easiest way to tell, just crawl underneath and look at the left front side of the rear diff. If you see a bulge on the diff with a wired plug connecting to it then you have a TRD OffRoad Package

This. Unless the previous owner installed the ATRAC button to switch his lights or something silly.

The sticker is usually a dead give away since 99% of people don't debadge the sticker.

Check the spare tire. It should be a BF Goodrich All Terrain if it's an Off Road.

My off road came with rugged fails. Not all terrains.

Mine too which I swapped out at the dealership with my rims and tires. Still have the factory rims and tires with 16 miles on them in my attic right now.

You could note your VIN, and call a toyota dealership and ask if they have any records of it having an offroad package when it came out of the factory. Another way is the shocks will be Blitsen shocks.

I feel dumb. I just took a look at the spare on my 2006 off road, and it's a Rugged Trail as well.
The previous owner swapped out the stock tires before I bought it so I had always assumed it was an All Terrain.

All TRDs have Bilstein shocks, this wont specify an Off Road model. Tires change as well including spares, but i doubt the previous owner swapped the rear axle

Don't feel dumb. They "should" have come with All Terrain's.

If you are certain it is a TRD the most obvious asthetic difference between the sport and the offroad is the hood scoop that only appears on the sport. Also sports came with 17" rims whereas OR had 16". The offroad also comes with a front tow hook and skid plate that isn't on the sport. As others have mentioned, the e-locker on the real axle is unique to the off road trim. There should also be an ATRAC, DAC and HAC (for auto transmissions) buttons and the elocker button.

Finally, you can look under the hood at the brake booster. The ATRAC system on the OR comes with a hydraulic brake booster whereas everything else has a regular vacuum booster. You can see the difference in this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/brake-reservoir-why-the-difference.148659/. The first image is an ATRAC booster, the second is a regular vacuum booster. Ignore the extra reservoir in the first image for the clutch. The TRD-OR will not have that large disc vacuum booster behind the brake fluid reservoir.

Hell yeah. I'm trying to burn through my Rugged Fails but with all the traction control I can't do burnouts. First world problem.
