Might as well suck it up now while resale is still great. When the 16 hits you'll take a bigger loss.

    Education is expensive.

Sounds like an impulse buy to me. Thats actually what mine was too. I wanted a Taco but found this and it was nice so I bought it that day.

Mine was definitely an impulse buy.

I've seen a few threads on 4x4 conversions, but mostly for 1st gens. Anybody have any knowledge of what goes into converting a 2nd gen?

A lot, but with junkyard parts you can do it in under 2k pretty easily

Off the top of my head: Transfer Case, Transmission, 4x4 ECU, Front Diff, Transmission Cross member, ECU to Transfer Case harness, CV axles, Front drive shaft (Maybe the rear too not sure on that), And then interior pieces so you can have the 4x4 switch in the stock location.

Edit: You could also be a badass and go with the FJ TCase

I don't mind doing a shit ton of work on a brand new truck. That's one of the main reasons I bought a Taco, to mod the hell out of it. Fair point on the warranty.

That's actually the route I was looking to take if I do the conversion. But, I'd much rather have a factory bought 4x4, and to Scott's point, mostly due to the warranty. So I guess I need to talk to my dealerships around here and see if I can cut a deal before those fugly '16s hit the showrooms.

I wonder if de-badging, painting the wheels, and removing the mudflaps is going to hurt the trade.

    THIS!!!

It's one thing if it a paid off 10yo truck. Something else entirely when it's a brand new truck.

Trade it in. Don't try to correct a mistake with another.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll be going by the dealership today when I get off work.

For the wheels, maybe they'll let me swap mine with the new wheels if I get another Sport? Or I'll just whip out the elbow grease. It's only plastidip.

That's what I've heard, don't really know much about the mechanical differences between the Sport and OR other than the e-locker though. And the e-locker isn't a big selling point for me since I'd be going for an ARB later anyway.

Also, I love my scoop. Vanity's a bitch.

Elocker. They just do that shit. Wish I had ARB front and rear too. And a D60 or Cruiser 9.5, in the rear

I hadn't heard that before. My current plan was to get an SR5; I don't really care about TRD seats or the in cab outlet and want to do an OME lift. Is the Sport that much of a better platform?

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
the rear gears are thicker in the non-TRD OR due to the space required for the locker. most blown rear ends are on TRD ORs.

Thanks. I've noticed a handful on here.

Do the SR5 and TRD Sport have the same rear diff? Just the TRDOR has the the smaller gears?
