I have a 2015 Tacoma TRD Sport and want the sound of my truck to match the look. Last weekend I took it downtown and the guy convinced me to "go in increments" until I have the sound that I like. Attempt 1 was to try out a Flowmaster using the stock size piping/tubing. At lower RPMs it sounds pretty nice. When I am on the highway though it sounds like a dang Honda Civic. :annoyed:Today he switched out the Flowmaster for a Magna Flow and it doesn't sound any better. I am looking for an aggressive sound but not annoying. Where do I go from here? Thank yall!!

    :fingerscrossed:

That's why I'm keeping factory exhaust. The least worst sounding exhaust I've heard on a Tacoma is the TRD exhaust.

    Fucking look it up
If you get the magna flow 40 series and dump it right after the muffler it will give you and aggressive sound that's what I wanted on mine and love the sound

Magnaflow will be one of the few that gets you the closest sound your looking for. like above, its a v6. and yes the flow master stuff sounds like complete crap unless its just idling. I have a thrush turbo on mine now and its very similar to magna flows but a little louder.

I've been happy with my Gibson on stock pipe and a Gibson slash tip. Might eventually have bigger pipe plumbed in. Selected the Gibson after listening to every last v6 Tacoma exhaust video on YouTube at least a half dozen times. Need to make a vid of my truck, wife has a pretty decent sound/video recording setup that should give an accurate representation, just haven't done it yet.

I went with an Aeroturbine 2525XL and am pretty happy with it. I dumped it after the axle a little while back and think it sounds better that way.

As a note, a v6 can sound good. In fact, look around to find an older fox-body mustang SVO. That 4 cylinder sounds as good as a 5.0 mustang exhaust, and they are known for not being very quiet. Not sure what the magic was, but a 4 cylinder with dual exhaust sounded impressive.

I was in this rut a while ago as well. I even made a thread as well. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/advice-on-exhaust.373775/ It has several videos of different systems as well.

If you're looking into full systems check out: Banks, URD and Magnaflow. If you're into just the exhaust check out the aero turbine 2525xl or any glass pack. If you want to stay with the flowmaster and still want deep sound, check out the Doug Thorely Headers and URD Headers along with the downpipes they offer. It all depends on how much $$ you want to spend and what sound you're trying to get. Indeed it is a V6 and its not gonna sound anywhere near a V8. I don't want the heavy drone sound nor the 4 banger sound, so I'm going with the URD 3" system and if anything their downpipe as well.

I like my aero turbine and I get compliments all the time. My fiancé was backing my truck and boat down the boat ramp the other day. The fact that my fiancé is a boss at backing up a trailer and the sound of my truck rumbling in reverse gave me a half-chub. Yee yee!

I've never heard a loud V6 Tacoma sound good. Can't be done.

Define "good". Do you mean you've never heard a tacoma sound like a V8? Everyone has their own opinion on what sounds good and what doesn't. I hear V8s that sound like Dogshit all the time.

I have an AeroTurbine 2525XL muffler welded into the stock system with a chop after the rear axle. It's also re-routed around the back of the transfer case instead of under. It is pretty loud when I get on it but no drone at highway speeds. I have had it for about 4k miles now and its getting broken in and I like it even more.

I know I'm a first gen but I have a v6 and so far I've ran a magnaflow, straight pipe and right now a flowmaster 40. IMO the flowmaster just doesn't "match" our trucks. I don't care for the sound of it. I thought the straight pipe sounded pretty badass but it gets annoying after a while. The magnaflow sounded good but I was looking for something a little louder. Today, I wish I stuck with the magnaflow. It was a nice rumble that wasn't overbearing that just sounded right for my truck. Sorry, can't provide details on it. It came with my truck and have no clue about the model number or anything

If you figure out a way to make a V6 have the grunt and tone of a V8 with a bolt on exhaust, you will be a millionaire.

My 07 has DTLT headers and an AT2525XL with a downturn in the stock exit location. At idle and cruise it sounds like a small V8 (even better with the AC on), however at WOT it sounds like a weed eater on steroids.
Unfortunately, getting a good sound at all rpms will be pretty hard.

Obviously it's my opinion, but I just don't find the sound of 4.0L Toyota V6s to be exciting. Making the stock exhaust louder only amplifies the disappointment.
