This is only for the 2014 owners, since before the camera screen was on the mirror, does anyone have a shield or DYI fix for glare? I can't stand that my radio/camera screen at certain angles of sun can't be seen because of horrible glare. It always happens to be right when I actually need the backup camera to get out of a tight spot.

I agree, but no matter what, its easier to see than it was in the '13 displayed in the mirror. Have you adjusted the brightness and contrast?

I thought about putting a shield in the CD slot just haven't really pursued it. I wonder if I could use the spare piece I have left over from the center console organizer. Hummmmm

Same here... In AZ the sun glare is strong. I googled for tacoma gps visor and didn't come across any ready made solutions. It just needs a 2 or 3 inch visor to fix the problem.

The best (worst) solution I've found is to turn the brightness and contrast up and to keep the screen clean. Fuzzies make it horrible to see. I also have tint on the front windows.

    Not enough...
I test drove a '14 on Monday and was surprised how crappy and washed out the screen on the Entune radio looked. I know its a touch screen and all, but damn.

Probably can be adjusted a bit and would look much better at night, but I would hate to buy one just to replace it in a couple of months.

There is a direct fit kit for Alpine's new 8" screen for our tacomas... I'm seriously considering replacing my JBL unit with it, Entune is basically useless, that's the only thing I'd lose.

Howdy all. New here, and new DCSB owner.

I was about to start a new thread about the glare issue but a little searching located this thread.

So far the only gripe I have with my Tacoma is the angle of the radio and the resulting screen glare. It's so bad I can't imagine how the design made it out the door.

Has anyone come up with an acceptable solution other than cranking up the brightness and contrast (it's already high).

It's amusing that if the radio was flipped, the bottom lip with the HD Radio labeling would probably make a perfectly sized visor. Of course the could have just reduced the upward angle a bit more too..

    Thanks, and awesome forum!

i don't have a 2014, i actually have a fujitsu (the ones lexus uses) NAV in mine, but i have same problem, best i found is set brightness all the way up and contrast all the way down. also i noticed dust makes it alot worse, even dust you dont really notice, so wipe it down good pretty often.

also not sure if the oem 2014 headunits have external video ports, but if it does, maybe try hooking up a screen to it, any screen, even a flat screen tv or whatever just so you can test it and see if the rear view camera shows on the external screen as well and consider getting an lcd screen put into your sun visor? just an idea...

or rewire the camera to goto a visor lcd? be a fun project, if we can get schematics i'd help on that one :)

Don't feel too bad. I put a $600 Pioneer in mine with full touch screen and I can barely see it when the sun is on it. I have the brightness at max and the contrast set and it only slightly helps. I'd like to see a solution as well.

I've thought about some sort of visor type sun block. Let's see if the brilliant minds of our Tacoma drivers can come up with something.

I have had my '14 for two weeks ... I was not happy at first ... tweaked contrast and brightness and am very pleased with it.

well you bought a pioneer.... thats like using spacers for a 3" lift you bought for $50 vs using a full 3" suspention lift with new coils/struts/drop brackets/etc that you bought for $1000

ya they both look the same, but as far as use, function, performance, not even in the same class...

pioneer NAV units are excellent for 2 purposes, paper weights and really sucky boat anchors

i can not say it enough times, if you do not have oem NAV buy fujitsu, they are what is in lexus, infinite, acura from the factory, they used to be sold in the US as 'eclipse' brand, now they are called fujitsu-ten. fujitsu makes some of the finest high quality products in the world! their laptops are phenomenal! but like the NAV units they cost 3x what a normal laptop costs!

I'm wondering if a custom screensaver would help? I know that I have had gloss and matte screen savers on my Garmin GPS and the matte finished helped greatly. The Entune kinda has a matte finish already, but maybe an extra one would help?? I think I have a spare one for my Garmin, maybe I'll stick it on in a spot and see if it matters.... if I can find it.

The glare on the backup camera screen makes it useless in the bright light of day.

Also discovered, if you turn on your headlights during the day (State law if raining), the screen dims so low it can't be seen...

I only have a problem with the back-up camera picture when wearing polarized sunglasses.

Solution, flip glasses to top of my head when using back-up camera...

Thanks for this info. I guess I will have to go DRLs instead of headlights during the day.

You can click settings, display then I think day mode at the bottom so it doesn't dim with headlights.

I thought about that, but then the head unit will be bright at night, which will be distracting. I did the fog light only all the time mod, and use them instead of DRLs or headlights during the daytime for visibility to other cars.
