I know Tacoma's will last but who here has built there tacoma that already had a lot of miles on it. All the builds I've seen are fairly new Tacoma's with low miles. Just being a Curious George.

Let me know if any of you have high miles and continue to build your trucks!

    Pictures and miles are welcome!

Just a bunch of old crap
I'm almost at 200k on my '06 and have lots of build plans. The bones are good, just needs some replacements from not so wise purchases on mediocre equipment. Suspension is wearing, so it will get rebuilt first. Frame, body, motor and driveline are all in fantastic shape.

I built my 22RE pickup with over 200k on it (I know not a Tacoma, but it is a 4cyl Toyota pickup). However step 1 was build the engine, with performance mods like oversized valve head, crawler cam, performance valve springs, high pressure oil pump. Added a new OEM clutch. Then added NWOR header, magnaflow performance cat + exhaust, front and rear Detroit trutracs, geared to 4.88s, BFG KM2s, full aluminum radiator, electric fan conversion, high output alternator, upgraded lights, and a bunch more stuff. The truck was mean.

The nice thing about a higher mileage truck is there is less resale value to be lost buy using on the trail. Offroad pinstripes, or a little rock rash? So what, it has 200k on the clock. I find them more enjoyable to use than near new trucks. The trucks are reliable, I see nothing wrong with starting a build at over 100k. Just keep in mind, some things may need more maintenance/attention down the road, but shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Bought my regular cab a few days ago with 118k. 2 owner on the carafe said it was used for commercial use so Im hoping just highway miles. It runs and shifts like a top and no leaks or anything out of the ordinary. I think she will be a trusty truck.

Bought my '01 bone stock with 200K on it. Haven't stopped building it since. Recently wheeled it 9 days straight in Moab and hit 245K on the drive home.

I see you guys with you fancy 3.4 lol Id trust that motor for well over 245. My first one I sold with 322k And it ran like a dream. Not to sure how the 2.7 compares in reliability.

Yea they made the DC with the 2.7, but with the added weight the 3.4 is a better fit. I've got the 3.4 and have been real happy with it.. Of course it could use a supercharger haha but it'll do for now

    What year is your RC?

Looks like it's in real good shape. Give the essentials a once over, and as long as things check out, Build Away!

There are some cool RC builds on this site, check out the 2nd gen section for inspiration.

What are your goals for the build?

Overall its in good shape the frame had surface rust but I've been taking care of that. And the plastic on a door panel peeled when I cleaned it but thats just cosmetic.

Id like to maybe do a 2-3 inch lift with max of 32s Main use for light trail duty and to get my dirt bikes where they need to go. The rear leafs are flat and Im not sure if thats normal since I've heard its ok. With 2 bikes and all my gear in the bed i was about 6 inches from the bump stops. So a new leaf pack would be good. The whole lift thing frustrates me because there is so many options and so many opinions its hard to get clear what all you need to get the ride hight you want with the options you want.

Id like to do an expedition build but might wait someday till I can afford a dc.

already checked the recall the frame one ends march 2016 so I doubt ill get anything from that.

What about 5100s up front with the wheelers pack? Or is the wheelers pack a good amount of lift? I think I read its 2-3 inches in the rear.

Looks good man nice bike. I was scared with my dcsb and two bikes on the tailgate. Hitting bumps on the highway made me cringe.

2.7 is a beast!!! Same engine since the 80's 4x4. My first truck was an 85 it had over 400k when I let it go and it ran awesome. My 04 TRD DC had the same 2.7 engine and I when traded it in, it had well over 200k. Only reason I upgraded was bc I got a hell of a deal on a new one.

If you search through the forum, there's some OG TW members that had well over 500k. A friend of mine had over 650k before He did a rebuild. He didn't need it but wanted to do it.
