Good to know! Thanks for that. Our teardrop ain't exactly light either and that was my main concern and reason for the SC. Do you know the weight on your vintage trailer? Pictures of said trailer? ( we think vintage campers are cool)

 

It would do even better with a supercharger.

The only time you can actually get the TRD tune for the blower in check apparently is when you add the 2.8 pulley since it allows more boost (extra air) to be taken in which will change the overall A/F ratio to your advantage. The pump isnt necessary, but its helpful, especially if you want to run E85 and make the truck flex fuel.

I'm willing to bet the fuel octane isn't a major factor either as long as the A/F ratio is fine.

If you run Goodyear Gatorback belts you should be able to get more mileage out of them before replacement is necessary.

Just stopped in at dealer and they told me $5,300 installed they could have SC in 3 days but have no clue on fit kit. Will toyota have to make fit kits to fill orders or could I be stuck with a SC that can't be installed?

 

Gotta have priorities, so....

Still plan on towing and having fun. Regearing is moving up the list but just can't miss out on the SC. The memory of the money spent will be gone long before the smile on my face.

 

I wanted my Tacoma to feel like a big V8 truck powerwise but drive small like it does. The S/C did that great. I don't have to go through the million and one downshifts on everyhill, I can climb trails in the mountains with no loss of grunt at altitude, and when I want to pass someone on an undivided highway I don't shit my pants if they do something funny like accelerate. Overall I've been happy with it.

Yes, when I bought the S/C I had high hopes it would work out great for towing. However, I quickly found out that at highway speeds the S/C consumes gas when a heavy load is behind the truck and the power is worse than a +350 HP V8. 7 mpg on premium gas for only adequate passing power with a trailer isn't nearly as fun as a V8 F150 that gets 11-13 mpg with my travel trailer and doesn't even notice it's there for passing. If you are getting a Tacoma for towing anything more than about 3500 lbs you should at least look at a full sized truck if you want to save some gas money and not feel like an unstable turtle out there.

I wouldn't think the supercharger would turn the Tacoma into a towing monster, I would mainly use the supercharger for passing and accelerating to speed. Maybe even go to the track. I hardly ever tow but still want a car for the occasion that I do need to haul or tow, not to mention I offroad when I can.

Would you rather, as a daily driver, drive the f150 you have or your Tacoma as it sits (300hp)? Again I don't tow anymore so that puts me closer to the taco but you are different. Also, average mpg?

The company I am interning with offers pension for now along with 401k. Hopefully it stays and I'm sure it will. They treat their employees awesomely.

I jumped on the S/C to not miss out and I couldn't be happier with it. That being said I have owned and driven a few TRD supercharged vehicles before so i had a good idea what to expect.

I do tow quite a bit, and the only complaint I have really had with the 4.0 and 6spd towing is just a smidgen too little ass to hold cruising on some long large hills. For me, that little kick in the nuts should be enough power to fix that.

Also because i have a 6spd, the supercharger really just made it more pleasant for me

And I missed the sound of my supercharger before.

I miss my boat on occasion, but there are always more and there are always BOAT problems.

Either way its likely a permenant solution. Can't reflash to take the supercharer off, and you cant buy them once they are gone.

Personaly, I would say if you have wanted one for a long time, and thought about it a bunch then hell yes giver hell.

I passed on a 2012 Baja 6spd Red DCSB and hated myself for it untill i got my PRO it cost me a few thousand more in the long run. And I got pretty lucky too.

 

For passing the S/C makes a huge difference. The stock Tacoma is slow to accelerate from 60-80 mph. With a S/C you have no problem accelerating at high speeds. If you want to take the Tacoma to a track I'd recommend doing all the supporting mods you can to the S/C. Otherwise you aren't any faster than an average high end V8 truck, just a little more nimble.

Daily drive I prefer the Tacoma. The Ford has a nicer interior but I flat out love my Tacoma. It's also easier to park and fits my lifestyle better. If I had to choose one or the other I'd probably end up with a Tacoma. If my family had to choose one or the other I'd ditch the Tacoma in a heart beat. The F150 is just better suited overall to most things, but the Tacoma rules offroad and in handling around town mostly because it's smaller and lighter.

With 33's and the S/C I'm getting about 15 mpg average. With just the S/C and stock size P rated tires I was close to 17 mpg combined. I didn't find that the S/C made much difference in MPG since you only burn more gas when you hammer the pedal down.

 

Also I would rather sell a testicle than a kidney.
