How about building log furniture. Lots of log cabin's in your area and people love that stuff to put in their cabins. That would give you something to do and be creative and make a little money on the side.

RC air planes. just get a simple styrofoam electric plane for like $150, so when u crash it, it just takes some 5 minute epoxy to fix it and its back in the air.

My grandpa use to do wood working, he make all kinds of little things with wood..little decorations, jewelry boxes, personalized gifts, stuff like that. He also started making yarn blankets/throws, scarves/hats/glove, those are good to donate to shelters in the winter time or to sell.
Pretty cheap and easy to do, also rewarding when you make something for someone.

Metal detecting is a fun hobby. You could go fishing or hunting, its deer season. Buy a guitar and learn to play.

The cost of a man's hobbies are usually proportional to his age. Be careful.

I'm into home audio for thousands and of course, guns.

Yea I mountain bike a lot too. I have 10 stitches and 3 pins in my finger right now so that is kinda difficult.

I like the idea of archery and shooting, I need to get a pistol. Plus I could use it to hunt the bears and mountain lions that frequent my back yard, my dogs are pussies or smart enough to know a battle they can't win.

Wood working sounds sweet, what kinda tools would I need for that? I used to frame houses so that is right up my alley.

I have been woodworking as a hobby for about 12 yrs. now. It's very relaxing for me but it can make me a little nuts when I start to get too anal about everything. I started it just for fun but of course I couldn't leave it small scale and now I'm neck deep in tools. I've made some pretty decent money building furniture and cabinets for people but those are the kinds of things that I try to be too perfect with and it stops being fun and begins to be work. Plus, "friends" start coming from every corner wanting you to build something or fix some piece of furniture and they can forget about how much of your time goes into those types of things. Anyways, for starters.....you'd want a decent tablesaw, mitersaw, jigsaw, sander, maybe a router as you get more into it. Next i would say a bandsaw, a thickness planer, maybe a lathe if you get into turning and clamps, more clamps, and then go buy some more clamps....and the list goes on but that would get you a very good start. Don't make the mistake I did though and buy the cheapest tools you can at first. I ended up sinking some serious $ into my tools after those broke, but I know these will last my lifetime. It's really a fun hobby for me and I've probably saved at least 10 grand building high quality furniture myself instead of buying it from some furniture store. Good Luck in choosing!!!
