Will 33" Tire Fit in Spare Tire Holder?

1. Can you fit a 33" Tire for spare tire in the stock location? Any problem getting too close to the exhaust?

2. Can you mount a 33x10.50 on the spare wheel? Is the rim too narrow? What about backspacing?

I don't think this will work for 2010 TACO models. They appear to have changed the design quite a bit, as there aren't any tabs to cut on mine. There are only the giant tabs that hang down from where the leaf-spring suspension mounts (i.e. basically the frame), well that and the frame/rear differential and receiver hitch...there just doesn't seem to be room. Perhaps you could push the exhaust off a little bit and grind it down, but probably not a good idea for putting stress further up the line...so it really doesn't look like there's room for 33's.

Does anyone have pictures or a setup where they fit 33" x12.5" under a Toyota Tacoma Double Cab off-road TRD 2010 model? I'm thinking not though... :/

 

I'd mount it on the bed of the truck. There are a variety of different mounting systems for the bed, and you can probably fit up to a 45 inch tire

 

I'd prefer not to mount the tire in the bed or behind the tailgate. The whole point of the truck is to have the bed for hauling/storing other gear. I don't want my tire taking up that space, nor do I want to put it on the roof - it looks tacky. I really wish I could get a 33" underneath, but that just might not happen. I'm going to start looking at bumper/swing-away options as this still may allow the use of the tailgate, etc.

 

its been 5 years lol but I figured id check in and see if you found a way to fit a 33" tire in the spare tire area of your 2010. although it seems like the only way is to cut those 2 tabs off...

does anyone have pics of a 33x12.5r20 tire in the spare tire carrier of their second gen?

 

I didn't cut the tabs..I took a hammer and massaged them to get the 285 to fit. It fit like a glove and I can bend them back if I got back to 265s or sell it.

 

285's smaller than 33's though right?

31 fits nice, you need to cut the feet off to fit a 32-33 tires, the exhaust should be moved if possible.

I havent run a tire under the bed in years cause of fitment and half my bed is used up and i have no tailgate.

didnt get a 33 tire yet...debating if i should get a OE full size spare instead

 

That's what I'm worried most about. My stock spare is already very close to the pipe and I havent been able to find much of anything on exhaust hanger relocation.

 

I massaged my guides in like others recommended. Then I went ahead and chopped off my exhaust after the muffler and welded on a turn down tip. Got plenty of room now for a 33" spare. Spare tire goes on today. Will update with a pic once it's on

getting that spare out from under the truck is a pain at night, in the rain. I know you said you want to keep the bed clear BUT, I stow my spare standing upright. It's behind my passenger side wheel well. I bolted down D-ring anchor points in the bed of my truck. The tire is held in place with a ratchet strap. Easy to take out, put in, and check air pressure on the spare. I have a shell on mine so you can't see the tire sticking up back there.

I wrapped some tow chain where my spare carrier is now. Extra storage. I may also get myself a 2nd spare tire and put it in the stock location. Maybe.

I'm also only running 265/75/16's.
