Potential Newbie with Questions

Hello All-
Looks like a great forum here! Lots of great info and people.

I am considering a 2005 Tacoma, 2X4, Crew Cab, auto, TRD, longbed. 4.0L. 33K miles.....................$18K

I am just getting ready to complete a deal selling my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 cummins diesel. It is a towing monster. I am also selling a 32' travel trailer so the need for the truck no longer exists. So a Tacoma is on my short list of vehicles to purchase.

My uses:
I am 6' tall and 260lbs.

1. daily driver
2. tow 3500lbs (sailboat) 1-2 times per month in hot climate (90-105F) and for 250 miles round trip. Some grades.
3. Place to lock my and my son's golf clubs.
4. Room for 4

QUESTIONS:

1. Will the Tacoma meet my needs?
2. Will it tow as is or will I need to add a tow package?
3. Is aftermarket tow package as good as factory (trans cooler, engine oil cooler, hitch, battery, alternator)?
4. How comfortable is ride for long drives (300-400 miles)?
5. Expected MPG?
6. Any thing on vehicle I should be looking at for my purchase?
7. Reliability?
8. Any issues specific to a 2005?

2. Will it tow as is or will I need to add a tow package? - if it doesnt come with a towing package id say you would need one.
3. Is aftermarket tow package as good as factory (trans cooler, engine oil cooler, hitch, battery, alternator)? - not sure on this one
4. How comfortable is ride for long drives (300-400 miles)? - i drove to myrlte beach from wv, about 8 hours and it was a fine ride
5. Expected MPG? - i was getting 19-20 before i lifted mine
6. Any thing on vehicle I should be looking at for my purchase? - chris4x4 can answer this one
7. Reliability? - most reliable trucks there are
8. Any issues specific to a 2005? - refer to answer from 6

Welcome to TW! Meteoraman pretty much has it covered! The 2005's had an issue with motor mounts, but it seems that there is a TSB for that...
