AZGFD says that there are only white bass in Pleasant. Maybe they started putting them in Tempe Town Lake as well.

This was prior to the wash out but we've definitely caught them there

Yeah, Pleasant was a great place for white bass for decades but it looks like the stripers have taken over since then... which is what stripers generally do in a lake. Sucks because Pleasant was the only real white bass fishery, and a pretty good one. Well now I know... adjust and modify.

Yeah stripers might as well be snakeheads. But, they're fun to catch, make great flathead catfish bait, there are no limits, and they taste good.

At least you guys have water up there in central AZ. Down here the "lakes" are what most folks would call ponds. I've only made it down to Parker Canyon Lake on the south side of the Huachuca mountains. I got skunked, but a couple of buddies cleaned up on rainbows. Saw a couple of monster largemouth bass as well. One place I do want to check out is Riggs Flat Lake up on top of Mt. Graham; I heard the trout fishing is amazing up there (8,000ft.).

BTW - Is there a YakAngling scene here in AZ?

I've had a few reports in the last few days about some BIG largemouths being pulled out of Pena Blanca. The fishing success in the CFP lakes is quite low right now unless you want a bunch of sunfish. Too warm and DO is fairly low in a couple of the lakes.

I've never been out to Pena Blanca. Sounds like I should give it a try. Also, I've never fished any of the CFP lakes in Tucson. Now if it were a bunch of bluegill...I'd fish them.

Might just drive up to Riggs Flat tomorrow.

Nice! I've been hoping to get to Riggs lately. And yes, it's mostly bluegill, but typically pretty small. Again, Pena Blanca has healthy populations of both bluegill and especially redear.

Where did you go and how long were you out there? I'm in Pinetop right now.

I never did make it up there last weekend. Work and school obligations seem to consistently get in the way of my fishing excursions.

I posted the above a couple months ago and so far the fishing in Southern California has been insane. There have been multiple 200+ pound tuna caught less than 4 miles from the beach between San Diego and Carlsbad. A buddy of mine has a nice boat slipped in Mission Bay and we went out a couple times last week while I was there on vacation. We never got into the big ones but it was all the 25-40 pound yellowfin and bluefin you could possibly want. It's only getting better and should stay good until at least October. Get out there if you can!

Did you make it out there? I haven't heard anything lately about Pena so I'm interested to hear how ya did if you went!

I'm headed down to Parker Canyon a couple times this week to do some sampling for catfish, so I soon may be able to let you guys know how that lake is looking too.
