Has anyone installed a switch where somehow you can switch control or press the OEM button and it open your garage? How would you install it/program it if possible. I have this bulky ass remote on my visor that is very annoying and would like to see if there was a way to do it with a button or switch? I realize you can get a rear view mirror with the homelink on it. That's not what I am looking for. Just an idea?

I was working on that but now think I may go with a replacement mirror that has Homelink... Or not. I don't know. Anyway, there are a number if articles out there where people have done this. Google can get you more info than what was on my post linked above.

Here's one I found that uses the exact same opener that I have. Lots of pictures showing where he soldered the connections. My plan was to make an opening at the bottom of the remote case, arrange all the wires to go in and out of that opening then solder them. That way the curcuit board is contained...

I opened a small garage door opener and soldered the switch wires to an empty slot where i installed a momentary switch. Taped the opener behind the dash. That was on my 08. On my 12 I just have a small opener on my key fob

Should be fairly simple if you are comfortable taking apart a remote...as stated above, wire in a momentary switch to the contact points of the remotes button and simply run the wires to your switch location. Just be sure you don't bury the remote in a place that it won't get the signal out. There was a write up on here from a member who actually did this.

This is what I've done in the past in my older cars. I left the battery in the garage door opener so I didn't have to hard wire into the car's electrical system.

Are you using the truck voltage to power it, or using the remote's battery?

I zip tied my remote to a wire harness bundle behind the glove box. Put a push button switch in on of the blanks below the HVAC controls. Batteries in the remote last a VERY long time and range is equal to having it on my visor. No brainer.
