Hi Everyone! I'm pretty new to this forum thing but it seems like a decent way to get some information.

I have a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport 4.0L V6 manual, and I'm getting ready to do my first oil change since my toyota care ended. I plan on changing my oil every 5k Miles just to stay on the safe side and so I can feel a bit more confident when I find myself in the higher RPM's.IMG_0387.jpg I've noticed a lot of you prefer Mobil 1 syn for your oil, but haven't heard much in the way of oil filters? I've always used fram and that's probly what I'll stick with but any feedback would be appreciated.

One can never have too many light bars.
I think oil and filters are personal preference and the most important thing is maintaining on a regular basis. I use bosch distance plus filters. They're smaller then OEM but they get good reviews and I haven't had any issues with them. Alot of people on here seem to like the OEM ones. I also Use mobil 1 syn as well.

Mobile 1 5W-30 synthetic and OEM filters for me. Bought 10 OEM filters and crush washers off eBay for $45 shipped.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
Fram is junk, stay away from them. Buy OEM filters. There is a thread here that compars oil filters.

This right here... but you may as well run 0W-30 mobile 1 full syn.... better start up protection and gets to operating thickness quicker.

Stay away from the dealer oil changes....

Also.... you need to do the diff breather mod if you are having fun in water like that.... hell at this point you should look into replacing your rear diff fluid.

I use 0W-20 Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil, along with a K&N Performance Gold (the one with the nut on top). I don't think I save any money doing it myself (After the initial startup cost of buying tools, jacks, etc.) But I end up knowing it's actually done and done right.

Do V6's use a different weight than us I4's?

AmsOil 5w20 Signature Series and AmsOil filters here. I believe the filters are made by Wix. OEM filters are good too. Fram sucks.

I run 0w-30 and will never again run 5w-30 in synthetic after doing some research and reading on oils about how they work and actual numbers. There is only benefits to running 0w-30 vs 5w-30. Simply put even 0w-30 is still too "thick" at even 100* ambient "cold" starting temperatures to properly lubricate a motor. BUT its MUCH thinner than 5w at temperatures below operating normal engine operating temps (especially at temps below 75* ambient). This provides better wear protection when the truck is warming up, it will warm up faster and spin more freely due to the more proper lubrication, reducing wear, and increasing MPGs. And when up to operating temps, both oils behave exactly the same way. It might not be significant but Mobile 1 syn 5w-30 is the same price as 0w-30... so its a no brainier.

    This is a good read

yeah and also get used to dropping the rear wheels and inspecting for leaks

dipping the rear in water looks cool and all but that requires extra maintenance on everything between the
    lugnuts on the rear end

You beat me to that one. I'll only use the OEM ones from now on.

Someone on here once said "Go talk to the parts guy and ask him how many filters you have to buy for a discount." I did just that and bought a case of 10 for $40. He even threw in the crush washers.

There's a similar thread that shows locating it behind the rear taillight. I followed that one and never looked back. No drilling, it doesn't get in the way when filling up with gas, and it's completely protected from water.
