It's my understanding that Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control are only available on the 4x4 OR. So are the only differences in the 4x2 TRDs the Hitachi/Bilstein suspensions and the hood scoop/rear locker?

Why would you buy a 2wd "off-road"? Kind of pointless

Agree......if you are going to go 2 wd, getting the OR with a locking differential is very little help over the existing LSD and still does not give you off road capability. Get the Sport in 2 wd.
Heck, the base SR in 4 wd is better off road then a 2 wd OR.
This is a rediculous marketing ploy.

There are no 2WD OR's or Sport's in Canada.

... but they did have base DCLB 2WD's with tiny 15" wheels that look like dropped and stretched limo's. :puke:

Kinda why I was asking. If it doesn't have CC or MTS, it would seem there's no point in Toyota even offering it, and yet....

It probably has MTS, but I can't seeing it have CC as that relies heavily on the 4wd system

So that makes buying an OR pointless. Unless you just want a sticker, wheels, and black fender flares

To me "off-road" implies you are going to take it off road. 2wd simply doesn't allow for that

They've always had a 2WD off-road package. It just seems that this one is pretty crippled compared to the 4WD version, while the TRD Sport 2WD only loses one feature, as opposed to three in the OR.

I mean it opens you up to the premium packages without getting the hood scoop, but at that point I'd opt for the Limited.

I guess I have to ask, why not just buy the 4wd and get all the features?

Take your 2 wd OR and try to climb a hill from a dead stop in 12 inches of wet snow ( or mud) and tell me they are suitable for off road. The Baja 1000 to be accurate is a very demanding "trail." and 4 wd isn't necessary for the terrain it is over.

So, I would guess that a 2 wd "off road" would be suitable for dirt roads and solid trails over hard ground with few steep hills. It's difficult to impossible to push an unpowered front end through very soft terrain.
