Sigh. Bought a 2015 2.7 4x4 AC MT 4 months ago. Love it. Except. The 2.7.

I'm getting better mpg than most 6 cyl, but only 2 mpg better. Now that I've had it awhile, I realize I was stupid in assuming that any Toyota truck is representative of all the God-like platitudes these trucks have. IMO, the 2nd gen shouldn't have the 2.7... It's too damn heavy. It ain't like 1st gen.

So, I may sell and get the exact same thing, except V6. Dealer said its worth only 20k now. 5500 miles. Sounds like I need to go Craigslist.

My question is... Do you guys think CL is the bestest option for private selling? Does Auto / Truck Trader even count anymore?

Again, noob here. Thanks for any input.

Nice, helpful and informative replies. (Wry smile)

I'd stay away from CL. A better alternative would be to get a written purchase quote from CarMax.

While I sometimes wish for more power, I've come to like the 2.7. One thing I've noticed is that no matter how hard I drive it, the mileage pretty much stays the same. Anytime you hit that hill and start losing speed, drop it a gear or two and give it hell. Once I took this mindset, the 2.7 become more enjoyable.

I've sold a couple of trucks on Craigslist and eBay. Follow common sense and these are safe, effective means of having a wider buying base. Good luck

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Only 20k? Your dealer is smoking crack! I sold my 2011 which is the same exact truck as yours with 55k miles for that last year. I'd recommend going V6 for sure. The 2TR-FE is a great engine, but is not happy in the heavy 2nd gen Tacoma. That engine would be perfect in a 1st gen though. My 5VZ-FE V6 only makes about 40 more horsepower than my old truck did, but it is a huge difference moving down the highway. The 2nd gen V6 is even more powerful yet. I was originally going to buy a 2nd gen DCSB with a V6, but found a too good of a deal to pass up on a low low miles 1st gen DCSB so here I am. I am working on getting a Taco for the wifey though, thinking a 2nd gen DCSB would be perfect for her.

URD makes a supercharger kit for the 2.7 if you are not wanting to part with the current truck. It ups the HP close to the 4.0 and you'd still have a much better manual transmission setup if you chose to go that route. Only thing is, the URD charger costs about 5k last time I looked and installing it might be challenging if you don't have any DIY experience. Probably cost you another grand to have it installed by a professional mechanic if you couldn't DIY. In that sense, it would probably be easier and cheaper to sell or trade in your current truck for a V6 model.

Private sale for sure. Dealer will turn around and ask for 25K at least, pirates. Used Autotrader in 2010, Asked for something between trade and retail value in KellyBlueBook. Worked well.

Absolutely nothing wrong with CL. I've sold and bought vehicles on it many times. Just be patient if the first couple people flake.

I've bought and sold a ton of stuff on CL. It gets a bad rap. People think there are nothing but scammers on CL. It attracts no more or no less the number of scammers as if you put the truck in your front yard with a for sale sign in the window. You just get a higher number of responses with CL, and a percentage will be bogus. Of all the stuff I've sold, there's been a few people that claim they'll come buy stuff and never show up.....but otherwise I've never had anyone pull any stunts. And you DO get coverage with whatever it is you're selling. All things equal, I LIKE Craigslist.
