I will do a complete write up when I get my truck and install it. I can't take pics except of the prep. The hardest part is soldering the small contacts. I tape the case to the rear of the console, run the wires out then attach them to the button..

The black on black button on the blank hides the button so somwonw won't know its a garage door opener. The battery can be removed as well if necessary. I use this method even WITH homelink. I just don't program the homelink. Anyone knows Homelink will open a garage,

Actually this switch is better as the wire can be screwed into the contacts. I just received it.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D0XK32O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

If you drill out the blank you can see the silver nut holds the switch in from behind and the blank snaps back in place in the dash

I have not seen the 16 close enough yet to see how much access there is behind the blank

People can get fancy with lighted switches,,But I keep it simple. The swicth has to be a "momentary switch" not an off/on

I am really wanting to buy a Tacoma...I really really am but its dumb nickel and dime stuff like this that kind of makes me feel like they are just seeing how much crap the customer base would tolertate before not buying. It's homelink. I would never have even considered that a 30k car would not have homelink. Thanks to the forum I guess I know.

I was looking at doing this earlier. I actually started a thread on the missing homelink a month or so ago. I may end up going the flea bay route with a used, non-mirror based homelink install like my '04 Tundra had. But if there are wire compatible options available and it is plug and play I'd love to know.

I assume the '16 Limited back up camera is going to the Entune head unit and not to the mirror? So the rest of the wires should just be for what if anything besides homelink?

Keep us posted on how these swap/mods go.

I plan on buying an extra VSC button and wiring it up so the button is a direct fit in one of the precut slots. Mounting the opener behind a panel and running a power wire to the light. Someone did a write up on the 4runner forums

that's great if you only have 1 garage door. not so great when you have 2 or 3 separate doors :)

my current house has 2 doors, next house will have 3 or 4 doors, 3 for cars, 4th for camper/boat.

Anyone try this from bob's mirror yet? Seems like a nice option.

Or if you would care to remove the overhead console to see if the mirror harness goes up and plugs into the 14 pin connector Toyota has used for years, then you would not be limited in your replacement choices. If yours has the 14 pin connector like I am assuming it does, then we can supply you with a mirror, plus & play adapter harness & wire cover. We just got in a large shipment of brand new autodim Homelink mirrors a couple weeks ago. Haven't made the official announcement on the forum yet, but because we got a really good deal on them, we are going to make these available for $129 shipped (normally these are $199).

I am working on a bolt on kit which will require no modifications to your Tacoma 2016, assuming you currently have a auto dimming mirror currently.

It will have Homelink and auto dimming, but will not have the compass. I think I can put together the kit for about $130. 4.5 minutes install tops and that includes cracking open the brewsky . No Soldering, plug and go.

If interested let me know, if there is enough interest I will whip out a few kits.
