I'm planning to roll with the 4x4 group on this one and I have a question about radios.

Are most folks running CB's? Or a combo CB & VHF/UHF? I run strictly ham radios and am hoping this doesn't limit or negate my communication ability.

Yes, I have a SWR meter for CB radios. You need the rig connected and the meter goes in-line close to the radio. I have a 2 ft jumper. You also need a tool (usually allen wrench) to adjust the length of the antenna. You transmit briefly and eyeball the meter, shorter equals higher resonant frequency. Nevermind the theory crap, you just make a small adjustmen and test again. You need the SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) to as close to 1: 1 as you can get it. 1.4:1 is ok but no worse on the channels you intend to use. I set my radio to Channel 20 (center frequency) and fiddled with it for a few minutes and it came right in. The important thing is to check it and make sure the antenna or feedline is not shorted or damaged which can damage the transmitter quickly. Perhaps we can meet up and get your antenna tuned. The antennas with an adjustablt tip (top 10" or so) are pretty easy to tune, unless some nimrod cut it off too short before you got it.

Yeah I've used em before. Lol. It's been years, and wasnt the greatest location. I tuned off 20 as well, and it's a tunetable tip. 3' Firestik II. That would be awesome to get to tune it again!
