Oh the irony, I was scrubbin Amazon prime before I came back to check TW lol

 

So after the meet I discovered I really should get straps ASAP. I didn't even hit the bumps so super bumps can take a seat for a few while I get my straps on.

 

Another example that kills local economies.

 

So, yeah, posted it on Craigslist Friday afternoon for $14k. I was signing over the pink slip at 2 pm Saturday for that amount. I bought this truck at 101,000 miles for $12.7 in 2009, gave it TLC and put about $1100 into the OME lift (after some missteps on the first lift, of course ), hitch and wiring, plus some basic maintenance/wearable items (tires, battery in the 11th hour, etc.). Sold it after 6 years, 50k more miles.

No doubt. But what you're describing is a function of consumer demand.

You know what though, its hard to want to spend MORE money at a local shop than order it online. I'm aware that that cause problems for small businesses, but, Why should i pay MORE money to support local business? I guess I just don't understand how Amazon gets stuff for so cheap when business dont? Example, i go to Cycle gear to try shit on, and then go on amazon to buy, Im not spending $650 for a Shoei helmet that is $500 on amazon.

 

I honestly don't mind paying a bit more at local businesses in some cases, especially when they provide superior knowledge and service. But it is extremely hard to find exactly what you want or need if it is not generic these days. Even at the box stores.

 

I don't mind as well. My father in law makes lot of money, so he doesn't mind paying extra to support the little guy, but when his 'gun guy' tried to sell me a Ruger for like $300 over retail "because that's the cheapest he can sell it" I'm just like..uh...yea i'll buy it from a shop, thanks anyways.

 

So if your friend worked at the shop, would you still buy off Amazon? Or would you buy threw him knowing the money you spent is keeping his job intact?

Two months later they go out of business and your buddy no longer has a job... How would you feel? I just bought 5 helmets. All from Cycle gear... I would rather keep people employed.

 

And that's why i don't sell guns anymore.. why I dislike like big box stores...

 

Yea I know... Cycle gear is one of the only places in the area that sells stuff like that.. Closest and most convenient... The local shop where I bought my ranger (http://www.adrenalineps.com/m_showroom.asp) told me to go because he doesn't sell a lot of accessories like that

 

I would rather not spend extra money, personally. I don't do business with friends anyways, for multiple reasons, that being one. When shit hits the fan, fingers like to get pointed and I choose to keep them away from me.

 

As a business owner, you definitely know who your real friends are...

 

Like I said, I try not to do business with friends because I value friendships. I've done business with friends in the past, and those friends ships suffered as soon as i had an issue with a product. It works both ways...the business thinks because you're a friend you're going to be cool about it, while on my side I'm trying to be cool but expect preferential treatment because I'm a friend and being cool, and when neither or one doesn't happen, one side is hurt. Have lost a couple friends because of shit like that.

 

I have lost many friends because I didn't give them "preferential treatment." This was because all they wanted was to save a couple hundred dollars.. If I did that for everyone I wouldn't still be in business... Real friends pay full price because they want to see you succeed..

 

No, see I totally understand when it comes to money, there are overheads and prices and shit you just can't do without losing money, I could see selling stuff to friends at cost, or a littler over, or shit, even your normal retail. But, when I have an issue with the product and you wave it off like its nothing, or try to charge me for a replacement after admitting a known issue with the first product you sold me, that's when friendships start to buckle. I'm not gonna name names, but its a vendor on TW, and I probably won't ever do business with them again. IMO that is not how you treat a customer, let alone a friend. Nobody in NorCal though, you guys are great

 

well that sucks... Totally understand that.. try to charge you twice...

 

He did, I payed it because it was either that or go back to OEM which I didn't want to do, or source new parts. After that It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth

 

Oh I'm not LT. I just want to be safe, and my CV boot will thank me after its attempt on its own life this past weekend.
