    If I end up buying a motorcycle soon I'm planing on replacing 4 of the bed torx bolts with eye hook bolts. Has anybody done this yet?

    Seems pretty simple just need 4 eye bolts the correct size from the hardware store, some fender washers, 4 flat rubber washers to go between the fender washers and bed (or could use the stock washers) and 8 nuts (one nut between fender washer and snugged up against the eye loop and one for the bottom of the frame).

    THIS link says the factory D-Rings installed as directed are rated at 440 lbs. (each). That would have been enough for what I needed, but for the extra peace of mine, I installed mine with the bed bolts.

    I did the same thing after carefully reviewing the instructions from Toyota. I installed them in the factory recommended locations.

    I discovered I could reach the backside of the bed if I removed the cubby inserts. This worked well. I could reach inside with a 5/8 drive ratchet and prevent the backplate from spinning while I torqued the T40 bit.

    I believe that the stock D rings (at the back of the bed) are able to rotate....if you buy the Toyota rings and install them on the bed bolts, do they rotate?

    Ken, The stock ones should rotate. I just double checked my back ones and they do.

    No, they do not. Not without some modification. The bed bolts have to be torqued down pretty good (because, well... they hold the bed to your truck frame ;) ) - and they crush the little plastic spacer on the D-ring base that enables it to pivot. Actually, I think I just removed the plastic spacer on mine. Somebody on here fabricated a steel spacer to use in place of the plastic one - and that worked. It wasn't important to me because I use my front D-Rings primarily to tie down my motorcycles in the bed. I know what angle they'll need to be at for that (basically pointing straight at the center of the bed). You can still attach tie-downs to them at a wide range of angles though... the non-swivel thing really isn't a big deal at all.

    Went to my local dealer Weds. to pick up a pair of the stock D-ring 'kits' - they wanted $50 EACH! :eek:

    'Cheapo' mil-spec D-rings ordered today... excellent thread, all my questions are answered before I even start.

    It has already been posted in the thread 450 lbs. Look:
    I got OEM factory D-Rings for $19 for the pair. [They only come in pairs]. Call around, beat them up on price. I always call at least two dealers for price quotes. AND BEAT THEM UP!!!

    As this will probably be one of my first mods to the truck when I finally buy it, do you know if there is a torque rating for the bed bolts? Or should I just feel for it to be nice and tight?

    That is EXACTLY where they should go, after doing some research, I would NOT recommend putting them in the bed bolts, The bed bolts hold the bed in!!!! and altering these bolts will affect the integrity of the truck, follow Toyota's instructions and you will be fine, JMOP Doc

    You really think adding rings in the bed bolts will really effect the integrity of the truck?? No issues at all with mine. It's not like the rinds are taking much length off the bolts.

    I am doing this ASAP!! I will be ordering the OEM ones from my dealer 1st thing next week and I am not concerned how much they want for them. For me the need out weighs the cost. I haul motorcycles all the time mostly on my trailer but when I go to the racetracks for a trackday I fill the bed with spare parts box, generator, stands, gas cans and always the stuff is moving around back there. Excellent idea!! I had those Ancra mushroom aluminum hooks in my '02 Prerunners bed but of course that bed was steel, more options available for it. So my understanding is they do not rotate once torqued down with the bed bolts? not a big issue I will simply angle them accordingly. I don't use a bed mat, don't really want one. I scratched my bed up 2nd day of ownership, no sweat it's a truck.

    OT: has anyone mounted a wheel chock plate in the middle front of the bed. I had a Pingel plate in my old Tacoma still have the chock just need to buy another plate if it will work on the composite bed. I looked under there and it seemed it would interfere with some stuff under there and be a pain in the butt to mount. I can live without it I suppose that is what trailers are for, right.

    No, I don't that, but the engineers at Toyota do, and any litigation will favor Toyota, and I understand you have No Issues, but believe me, if and when you do have issues, (and I hope you don't) you will have issues!! Doc

    The rings are skinny. your not loosing alot of treads on the bolt at all by adding these rings. I know I'm not going to have issues becuase these bolts are still going into the frame.
