If you are thinking of buying a 2016 Tacoma specifically for towing (as my husband and I just did two days ago), you should know that as of 2016, the towing package no longer includes the pigtail connector for the brake control box, so you have to have the dealer 'special order' it. Also, there are no bed covers available unless you order the truck covered from the manufacturer, no Toyota dealers have covers yet in my area and the 2015's won't fit because the bed is completely different. Also, no floor mats, so you have to have those 'special ordered' and pay an extra $83 as well for 2 front mats and one back mat. Jeez!

There is a very small percentage of people who actually wire in a brake controller. They used to include them with every truck then realized the savings by not including them and more profit by charging for them instead.

I think you've been given incorrect info. See this post from Cap from another thread:

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
You bought a Tacoma for towing! That's why I didn't buy one.

The connector exists in the kick panel, but what is not included any longer is the connector to actually plug into that. It used to be included in the glove box in older trucks, but as of 2014 for the Tundra and 2016 for the Tacoma, it is no longer included.

Ask if they will throw it in with the deal. Im sure they wouldnt lose a sale over a cheap pigtail harness.

Whenever I've purchased a controller I just get the vehicle specific adapter to go with it - I've never used the OEM provided one.

    What he said, about $15.

No splicing involved, just plug and play. I use a Curt TriFlex.

I'm confused. Was the plug and wires in the bag in my glovebox not said connector?

Do you have a picture of it? I know the Tundras don't come with them, so I assumed the Tacoma didn't either.

    Maybe it's a Canada/USA thing?
