They are three leaf, yes. Is there a suggestion of which leaf springs are encouraged to get tht are not super expensive but put me where I want to be?

Ok , the leafs pictured are my stock leafs with the addition of 2 Ford Ranger leafs per side, this gave me the lift I wanted, a superior gain in ride quality & eliminated axle wrap (or "clunk") 100%...

I don't claim to know what the OP needs but I do like the DIY nature of this mod. My stock leaf pack seems basically OK but I'd rather add one or maybe two leaves from a donor leaf pack like you did than throw mine away.

Did you happen to have a dead Ranger laying around to scavenge, or just measured and went looking for something pretty close to the width/length you had in mind?

Grease the drive shafts, front and rear. This helped my momentum clunk but it's still perceptible.

I had the same problem. from what I understand it was axle wrap. I replaced shocks and got a new leaf pack from old man emu. new bolts and everything. I have yet to feel the clunk and slamming problem. it seemed to be a fix it for me.

Does grease all the zerks on the drive shaft mean= stick grease on the 3 open areas of the drive shaft that turn? My 2013 has 38,000 miles on it and just started this clunk 3 weeks ago. When coming to a stop, then releasing the brake, you hear it. Like clicking your tongue in your mouth, and it just started doing it 2-3 times after I release the brake now. I bet if I slammed it into a wall it would quit doing it!

Hey guys...thanks again for all this help and suggestions. So I have looked at other tacomas on the road and they all have the same three leaf springs with the big thicker one on the bottom. This is exactly what I have too. I guess I could add a leaf if the ones I have are just stuff enough. Also, I am going to check the back brakes. I am not sure if greesing everything up would help. This clunkin noise ha to do with the momentum of the truck moving forward then the brakes stop the truck and when the brakes are released the all the momentum of the truck moving forward feels like it drops making the sound and pushes a little on my automatic gear shift. On Monday I take my truck into another mechanic to have him go over some of these suggested possibilities. I will let you all know what we find out. Cool.

I would have to agree with a couple other posts here that suggest checking your rear driveshaft u-joints. The noise you hear could easily be a worn u-joint. The play in a worn joint is taken up after the brake is released causing the noise.

I was looking online and found this clip of a truck having some back end issues just like mine. Just at 25 second point this dudes truck does what it feels like my truck is doing too. Truck stops then it almost looks like the shocks release once the brake is released. I have new shocks on my truck so I have a hard time thinking it is that...but this may help give a better idea of what my issue may be. Monday I see a new mechanic if anyone has ideas I want to bring it to his attention. thanks.

I only watched up until the 30 second mark. What you see as the shocks release is actually axle wrap. If you look at the 3rd member in the middle of the axle as he is braking you can see it is pointing down. As soon as he releases off the brakes you can see the third member move up. This is precisely what axle wrap is. Most 1st gens have it. There is a mod to fix it, or just get stronger springs.

I 100% agree. And that's the reason I haven't gone about the mod. But some people don't want to spend the time/money/knowledge/whatever else to do it. Some people like an easy fix for a while.

In case OP isn't able to find it, this is what I'm talking about. I have no real knowledge on how good this works or anything. I have not read past the first few posts.

I've lifted quite a few Tacomas (both gens) & the single biggest complaint was axle wrap, rebuild the springs/install & send them on their way with problem solved..

When you say "rebuild" the springs are you saying try out this mod or just get brand new set of leaf springs? If the latter then do you have a suggestion of what I should purchace? Is there the option of adding leaf springs to solve this issue or just get a entire set?
