I believe it is best to wear my seatbelt and mostly do. I do not believe that wearing helmets or seat belts in/on MY veichle should be mandated by our government. If I or another adult feels like taking that gamble, they should be allowed to do so.
There are occasions when wheeling at low speeds the seatbelt restricts me from moving about cabin to better see where my truck is going. This is when mine comes off while moving. My dealer removed my chime before leaving the lot.

I see no problem with this at all...if those who don't wear such belts are held accountable for all of their own medical costs if thrown from/around inside a vehicle. Same for the motorcyclists: you should be free to not wear a helmet, it is your life...but I am also free to not have to subsidize your endless brain injury ICU care of hundreds of thousands of dollars with increases in my insurance premium. If you and your family are willing to foot the bill if you are injured, I say you are free to do as you please.

Oh, and I do actually have a valid reason to shut off the passenger side one. There are many times my wife or myself need to turn around to attend to our crying baby in the back, and the belt prohibits that. My wife will either take it off momentarily to do something, or just move to the back seat and buckle up there. The alarm has the annoying habit of simply irritating our child more.

My above statement about seat belts was not clear. The federal government required all cars/trucks to have seat belts. The states enforce wearing seat belts mandatory except NH

Jesus fucking Christ...I don't need or want anyone's opinion on my driving abilities....Everyone seem to b worried about the insurance paying for my accidents and such....Well how many of u idiots fucking smoke like a god damn freight train? I'm sure plenty do and guess what? that raises my insurance rates....but u don't see me bitching about it on the internet....and if u think I'm worried one second about someone paying my bills DON"T I've been driving for 31 years and I have NEVER had a insurance claim (except a damn broken windshield from BB gun)...So all u idiots who have hit every damn thing on the road...I'm paying for that!! How about all u guys who are buying truck and taking them off road? I'm sure none of u guys are guilty of damage done to ur vehicle by "accident"...and letting ur insurance cover the damage because u think its "cool" or "fun" to take a truck up the side of a damn mountain...in my stupid/redneck state of Kentucky as u dumb asses like to call it...we have mountains TOO! and guess what we drive up those mountains? Side by sides!!! I have 2 of them in my garage!!!

I would like to thank the ones who gave me honest answers to my question...the rest...PLEASE get a fucking life!!

I live about 10 miles from the Tennessee border and every time I cross into Tennessee u can see motorcyclist pulling over to remove or put their helmets on...Tennessee has a helmet law...the moment they cross into Kentucky 75% of them remove their helmets

Bunch of nanny bullshit do as your told in this thread when the man asked a simple question. For the record, I wear mine 100% on blacktop. But I don't need the gov to keep me safe from myself or from the bullshit ABS system that is now on my truck.

And for the record. You do not "deserve" a damn thing in life. Work for it. Which includes common sense which obviously isn't so frickin common.

Oh who gives a fuck if he wears one or not? He's not hurting anyone but himself.

I plan on turning mine off because I too don't always wear one down dirt roads in the country where I may see 25mph. Or our private land where there's 3k acres. I don't think the cattle are driving under the influence so I should be just fine!

No. The law exists for insurance companies, so they don't have to pay certain expenses because you chose not to wear the belt. It also can mean your family not getting conpensation on your behalf if you die and were not wearing a belt.

It isn't there to interfere with your personal choice.

In my state, if I get into a car accident, I expect emergency workers to come to the scene and take me to the hospital if my life is in danger. And I expect the hospital to try to save my life. That costs taxpayer money. I suppose the emergency workers could wait a while before treating me to verify I have insurance and can afford to pay for my treatment. Perhaps I left my insurance ID at home. Perhaps I am pinned in my vehicle and the insurance card is in my pocket and cannot be accessed. I could possibly die while they are waiting to verify that I have insurance or that I can afford to pay for them to save me.

And if something terrible did happen to me and I was left unable to work, instead of dumping me on the side of the road to die, I would hope that the state would take care of my medical bills and help me to live.

As a taxpayer, I refuse to have my tax money wasted on treating someone who did not take easy precautions such as wearing a seat belt. So if my state was to not enforce seat belt laws, I'm afraid the entire system of having emergency responders that are paid for by the taxpayers does not work for me.

Feel free to privatize the emergency responders and then I don't really care what they respond to. I get a good laugh at those states that have privatized the fire departments, and then they respond to a fire by standing and watching a house burn down while they protect the house next door.
