I pulled this from another thread. Those of you that have the factory installed tonneau, is this how all of them are (cut-outs), or is the one pictured a one-off sort of thing?

No mine all have nice clean cuts, looks like it actually came from the factory unlike that one.

I read somewhere here that some cutting is involved with factory tonneau's but never seen actual pics of it.

Yes. Maybe a few less plastic shavings though. There are two of those posts and cutouts on each side of the bed.

If the truck didn't come with it and you want to add it on afterwards, you will have to cut the top bed rail cap (photo) so the pins can stick out. Unless you find a guy who doesn't want his anymore and then you can just swap the caps out.

I only ask because I was speaking with my local dealer and we were discussing the tonneau. I told him about the cutouts and he was beside himself and, in effect, didn't believe me. He had not, up to that point, had eyes on any models w/ the tonneau so he couldn't say either way. Just wanted to get some clarification from factory tonneau owners. Thanks y'all (southern boy).

Glad I could help! I have one and I actually like it, its really nice being able to lock stuff in the bed and keep a lot of stuff out of my backseat.

Honestly it looks like if you took some fine sandpaper to that bed rail cap, you could clean it up pretty nicely and get rid of all of those plastic shavings in a few minutes. The cuts look straight, they just didn't clean it up well.

True, my only peeve is that if the cover gets removed, replaced, etc., then those cutouts remain. Kind of an eyesore and makes for potential snagging, injuries, etc. I would prefer an intact bed rail. To each his own.

Then you'll need to replace them should you remove the cover. Looks just like mine, although
I had no shavings to clean up but it's nothing 5 min. and a piece of sand paper couldn't clean up.

Exactly. Not very keen on that idea, personally. Hence I would opt for the vehicle sans tonneau.

Mine are clean and don't have the rough edges, so I guess they vary somewhat.
