thx! I appreciate the help. I was going to look into one of those 2 for the sub.

Do you do this on the side? Ever work for a shop? Just wondering what
    cost should be approximately.

Ever hear of any of these places good or bad? Not sure what area you're in.

I live in ny so hard I wouldn't be able to recommend installer. Some best buys have really skilled installers who will get your car done the right way becuase as a big company. They have ways they have to do things. But that's assuming your specific bestbuy has such an installer.

What's nice about bestbuy is theyll put extra effort into making your car look stock.

Smaller stereo shops typically don't have rules for installs but they generally provide "Think outside the box" installs that bestbuy aren't allowed to do. You'll find better equipment. More custom install. Potentially you'll get more outta these smaller shops but you'll end up paying more. But then you also run into a potential issue of those guys doing a lazy/hack job too.

I was thinking of them as there's one pretty close. But like you said, lots of standards for a big Corp. But
lots of lazy fuks too who are there just for the paycheck.

I'm not sure what "most normal people" would consider good enough, but IMHO I think you're heading down a path that will lead to disappointment. What your looking to do, i.e add an amp and a sub to the stock speakers and head unit is in the right direction. Unfortunately, and again IMHO you're getting really bad advice.

A line out converter is exactly that. It converts your signal from one form to another so that its in a format your amp can recognize. It converts everything, signal, noise, distortion, everything. It also has its own electronics that can even add some stuff that's not already. These can be very cheap and dirty (like $18 at Walmart) or a bit more sophisticated. Either way it's just converting your signal. If you are set on going this route there are lots of amps out there that have built in line out converters. Basically just get an amp that can take speaker level inputs and you won't need the extra hardware. This is far superior to adding any of the line converters that are out there. Line out converter were invented for head units without RCA's and amps without speaker level inputs. Basically a patch. I personally would not go this route, but if your watching the budget a good five channel amp with speaker level inputs is a good place to start.

On the sub a drop in is a good option. Most any sub when paired with the factory coaxials will sound decent. Just match your power to the sub.

Last piece of advice run away, far far away from Best Buy. They get the installers that nobody else will hire. I've seen some amazingly messed up installs out of there that were "professional".

No just the regular stock system. Every truck I've ever had had been the stock system from the factory. To me there is no reason to pay for the jbl if you're gonna put aftermarket in.

What if it was only 400$? I got the JBL for 400. I want this for the amplified speakers. I listed to them back to back with the sub turned way down and it is substantially better for 400$ and less hassle. I do plan on changing the sub with a JL TW1 or 3.

I haven't measure it. I know the 8 inch version fits for sure. Not sure about the 10 inch version.

In fairness. I've always changed out head unit but chose not to this time becuase of integration. The only one time I use a stock head unit was on an old 99 Acura that was a basic CD player. Hooked it up to two ken wood amp that took speaker level input. Imo, that was one of my most favorite setup.

I've never hooked up an amp to these new factory head units but I'm sure atleast I'll be satisfied.

And I only recommended a line out converter becuase that person was only looking to add a simple sub, nothing else , so a line out converter should suffice. And most mono Amps don't accept speaker level.

They make an 8 inch micro but now sure if it's the same model or not.

Can anyone recommend a decent and affordable 5 channel amp with speaker level input? Planning on keeping stock speakers for now and adding small sub enclosure behind back seats of doublecab.

Other option is powered sub under seat and 4 channel amp.

In my 07 I added small amp to stock head unit and speakers and it sounded dramatically better.

The SM H500 and Shok triton 8/10 is one of the best value setups you can get and performs amazing. The sub channel provides 500wrms @ 2ohms class D and the front end gets 90x4 @4 ohm Class AB. I recommended @gearcruncher to run the amp bridged to his Mercury k62s and he is blown away with the clarity of volume of the entire setup.

Budget and quality wise, the H500 and 1 Triton 8 ported or 10 sealed Cannot be beat. For a dual setup, @Ihatetacomas runs 2 triton 8s, easy to fit sealed but he opted to do a little extra work and run them ported off a mercury 1200.1.

Yes the alpine looks nice- looking to spend a little less.

What brand is the SM H500? Where can I find it online? Price?
    Thanks

    The H500 is spec'd :
    4x90wrms@4ohms Class ab or 260x2@4ohms
    1x500wrms@2ohm Class D

500wrms is more than enough for most people in the tacoma, and if you have stout highs, 260wrms per door is massive.

Its not a familiar brand in North america but rather big in the easter world. Soundmagnus, as a build house builds amps for a number of other companies but this is their build house brand. They build amps for spl dynamics, American bass just to name a few.
As for where you can find it, Through me so if your interested let me know. Id love to setup a group buy for them.

Here you can see what he got up to with the mercury mids, and his h500 amp.

Yes with a reputable well known brand. Feeding Stock speakers how much power do you want? 50W is more than enough. If it were me I would stay away from these overseas off brands. The little money you save could spell disaster if you short something out. To me not worth it. Good Luck

The stuff i carry and Rep is definitely not an " off brand ". i have sold to countless people on tw alone without a single problem :) but each to their own. Just because it has a RF name on it doesnt make it any more reliable btw. I know of many " so called " name brands that have more issues with some of their product lines.

Just for what its worth, 90 % of all audio is made either in the Korea, Malaysian or Chinese builds houses. An example of something i pull is the SM 1800.1 Dk which is 100% the same amp as the american bass Ph4000, which is produced for American bass by Sound magnus, the build house.

Anyways this is not what I'm trying to turn this into, I was only wanted to suggest a product that i feel would work fantastic, and has proven so as well. lets move on
