You can get spray cans of Fluid film on Amazon for about $10 / can. I'm considering buying a few cans and doing it myself. There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on this subject. It's hard to sort through the BS. I figure Fluid Film has to be better than not doing anything. I just traded up from an 03 dodge dakota that was a bucket of rust...I want to get at least 10+ years on this new Tacoma...and hopefully not be as rusty as what my Dakota was. Interested to see what opinions you'll get on this thread.

Krown undercoat. You cannot do a coating adequately enough for complete protection yourself. See the comments in this thread for a pretty good breakdown of what it does. There is no comparison.

See this comment: Western Mass Tacomas

"Ok guys. I did the krown treatment today. I have to say, i am sold. I am Very impressed with the whole process, and the service i received. the guy let me watch the whole thing, explained it to me, and did an Extremely thorough job. The whole underside of my truck is glistening, and dripping with the stuff. I know fluid film is proven and respected, but you just cannot do as thorough as a job with it at home unless you have some special equipment. The guy drilled holes in key places(all out of sight, inside the doors etc) , inserted a special wand and sprayed the krown behind the sheet metal on the whole truck. On the back, he removed the tailights, and inserted what had to be a 6 foot wand all the way down the insides of the bed, and sprayed. The inside of my bumper, tailgate, spare tire, hood, gas door, skid plate, absolutely everything is covered. I will be doing this every year to protect the truck."

Second page of this thread has some good discussion as well.

I used fluid film in the spray cans with their extension wand they sell. Cost about 110.00, used 9 cans.

Been debating between going to Krown and doing Fluid Film my self. Leaning towards Krown for the first application, and if I see how they do it and feel like I can clone the process on my own next year I may do that. $120 a year for piece of mind that every nook and cranny is protected is definitely worth it for me.

I just bought a fluid film undercoating kit from Kellsport for around $200 and treated the entire undercarriage of my 2016 Tacoma.

The kit includes flexible spray wands that allowed me to treat the inside of the frame as well.

thanks for the reply's guys, i got the fluid film can and extension wand and i know from spaying this summer the cans don't last long. look on ebay you can get the gun with all the extension wands and 1 gal of fluid film for $150-175 i think it was. that's what i will do down the road.it will be to cold for me when and if my truck gets here anytime soon. krown is way to far away for me. so i just got off the phone with a guy about 6 mi. from me that will do the same job as krown but with fluid film for $135 . i was going to buy the kit but for that price i will let him deal with the mess!

I crawled under my vehicle and coated all the metal especially the wielded areas with wheel bearing grease..Next treatment will be Environmental safe bar and chain oil that I'm gonna spray where i can't reach with a pressure pump sprayer.

No krown near me. Never really had a problem with body rust, but frame rust has been an issue. Would like something to slow down the salt on my frame

I setup an appt to get the Krown done at a local place on my wifes Sienna. I'm going to see what I think on hers before taking my Tacoma in. Price is $129.95 for the van and $139.95 for the truck. A little pricey, but if they do a great job I will think it's money well spent.

Going to look into these options , the dealership wanted $800 when I bought it ...no.
My 2004 Dakota literally rotted away due to our lovely Pennsylvania winters

There is a shop that does Krown coatings in Cumberland county (Mechanicsburg) if you're from eastern PA.

I travel roughly 80 miles annually to that shop to have the treatment done. Worth the trip in my opinion.

As part of my trade in I got free undercoating ($350), and winter tires and rims. I doubt I will ever do anything more than the one time undercoating.

It takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Mine was $149 I think. When you get a treatment, you "lock in" your annual price for next year as long as you come back within one year.
