Purpose
My truck, like many of yours, is a tool. It gets me to work each day, brings home the groceries, carries the kiddos around, and lets me explore all things I see worthy to be explored. Like any tool, it is very capable of completing certain tasks, while it completely fails to handle others. The purpose of this build is to identify and modify the areas where it fails. I'll be adding pictures of what I have done so far and what I do as I go from here.

The day I picker her up. I was one proud dude. The truck stayed just about like this for about two years. Then, a quick google search for "How big of a tire can I......?" lead me to TW. I lurked, and lurked, and lurked. I finally joined about the time I ordered this.

I had never messed with suspension before, but I quickly learned the value of this site. With a little research and a few PM's, I decided I could do the install myself. So I put the truck on jack stands, tore out the old, and wound up with this.

I'm usually all for the function>form argument, but I just didn't like the look of the relatively narrow tires on stock wheels with the lift. I grabbed a set of 1.25" Spidertrax spacers and bolted them up. I was a little worried about using spacers, but I've never had a problem. I check the torque every time I rotate my tires. They've never needed tightening.

I was tired of having to dig to find what I was after in my console. I threw this together one afternoon. It's not fancy, but it works well.

 

My back seats were constantly filled with a carseat, toys, tools, etc. For the entirety of duck season(late Nov.-Jan.) I would also have my shotgun, waders, blind bag, etc, etc, etc. It was miserable, and the Mrs. didn't like it at all. I found a used Leer 100R on craigslist very cheap and had it painted to match. Problem=solved.

I love my top, but some things won't fin in there. What won't go in, must go on top. I found a Thule Tracker II roof rack on CL dirt cheap. I ordered some cheap roof rails from Proline roof racks and stuck it on.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how to haul Kayaks.

 

Open diffs suck. The yellow wire mod makes them suck to a lesser degree. Second wire down from the top on the left. Snip. Traction control in 4L. This is certainly no substitute for a locker, but it does help. I will have a locker....one day.

 

I met up with a couple guys from the TN thread at Turkey Bay OHV park at Land Between the Lakes in KY. I left with some new pin striping, and a better understanding of what my truck will and will not do. All in all, it was a great trip.

Love your Leer! I recently upgraded from a hardshell tonneau to a cap and the only thing I hate was that I never bought it sooner or from the get go

 

We're running almost the same suspension set up, same tires, have almost the same stance..

 

Amen to that! It's probably the most functional piece of equipment on my truck.

I do like it and it will serve me well for a while but I also have plans to upgrade in the future. My leaf packs were almost flat before my AAL so they will probably have to go within a year or so.

 

To be honest, I hated the look before but after struggling with the tonneau and seeing the functionality and additional mods others have done, it was a no brainer. Live and learn

 

I'm pleased with mine. I went with the 884 coils hoping to avoid needing UCAs. I am able to get about 1.1* caster with 0.2 degrees camber with this set up. It is very tolerable, but I want better. I Plan to move up to 885s whenever I get new UCAs. My leaf pack is holding up very well. I had 45k on it when I installed the AAL. I'm now at 65 with no sag at all.

 

I think that mine would look funny without the cap now that I'm used to it. My wife calls it my "grandpa top".

 

The factory recovery point is too small to fit a 5/8" shackle, so I filed it out and hit it with a rattle can. Simple fix.
