I noticed mine has this in the mornings. Reverse is fine, but when I stop and put it in "D" and take my foot off the brake, the truck hesitates for a second then it will start rolling with a mild jerk. It's not 5 seconds though, and it only does it when it sits over night. During the day its smooth with no delay.

My street is higher then my driveway, so I have to back up a slight incline, don't know if that's a factor.

I hope Toyota appreciates your long term commitment. Most buyers would have traded and never looked back.

For years the Toyota Tacoma has been plagued by a persistent driveline vibration. This vibration occurs when driving at speeds of 15 to 25 mph and causes the truck to feel like it has a shimmy. Even more maddening than the shimmy is the fact it doesn't equally affect all trucks. A service manager we spoke with a few months ago said you could drive a variety of Tacoma trucks on his lot and each one would have a different degree of shimmy.

Service managers and owners have created all sorts of remedies to the problem, and Toyota has had an ongoing technical service bulletin stretching back to 2005 models. This service bulletin offers a variety of remedies to the problem, including installing a foam pad behind the steering wheel cover.

We asked Sweers if the problem was resolved in the 2016 model. "Completely gone," Sweers said. "If you can find it, I'll buy you dinner."

But what caused the problem in the first place? Sweers said it was a combination of angles and manufacturing tolerances. He said the new truck has a completely new differential with new spring sets and corresponding angles. This basically changed the driveshaft angle, which resolved the problem.

But the vibration on the previous generation, was it the same as some are experiencing on the 3rd gen? As in, was it a constant, or would it just appear during a certain engine speed / vehicle speed?

Unbelievable how long they let this go on.

" a combination of angles and manufacturing tolerances". That is not a strong endorsement of Mexican production.

And the fix is: "installing a foam pad behind the steering wheel cover". And then Sweers has the audacity to say: "Completely gone," Sweers said. "If you can find it, I'll buy you dinner."

What's happening to the guys that are lifting their trucks? Because Sweers says he: "changed the driveshaft angle, which resolved the problem". When you change the driveshaft angle with a lift, better or worse?

Mine doesn't seem to be the same as what's described with the 2nd Gen. driveline issue. It isn't a shudder or shimmy between 15-25 mph or at any particular speed. It's a hard-core buzzy vibration in the pedal and steering wheel when the engine is working around 2,000 rpm at any speed. Outside that range everything is smooth. Doesn't feel right to me.

I feel that on mine as well around the same rpm range. To me it almost feels like its part of the exhaust note at that range.

I just figured the new engine was buzzy, because some direct injection motors are like that, but if that was the case it would be through the entire rpm range.

Has anyone tested to see if it does this when the vehicle is not moving? That might help isolate it to the engine or the driveline somewhere.

Holy cow I noticed this too. Test drove a DCLB Sport 4x4 and any time it downshifted and got over 2000 rpm the rev made a "buzz" in the steering wheel. After a good 20 min test I felt th buzz in my elbows.

My gen 2 had about 1/10 of this.

Just found two other threads I think OP was referencing at the start of this one. Definitely the buzz vibs in the 2,000 range. One says no vibs in Neutral. Haven't experienced the high speed one yet. I'll try in the morning.

Toyota admits this has been going on since 2005. They have not solved it on the '16.

If your state has limit law, give them three strikes, then out, move on to something else.
I once had a 5 series BMW in the 90's that they could never fix before lemon law in CA. Sold it at a loss, life's too short.

Can you post which spacers and which width you got?
I'd love to bring my wheels flush.

I don't know mine doesn't seem to do it all the time and doesn't seem as severe as others have it. I swear at times it sounds like its the exhaust, but that's my non technical evaluation.

Other then that the truck drives fine and it doesn't bug me.

And that's fantastic, you along with 70% of responders are lucky enough not to have this issue.
Regardless I hope the remaining 30% don't go unheard and Toyota actually resolves this issue. After 11 years of Tacomas having some sort of drive train vibration you would think the engineers could figure it out and solve it.

You and I both know Toyota corporate waits for the owners of the trucks to fix the problem . Once we as owners find a solution , they implement our fix into the next generation build . If you have a vibration , you are better off trying to fix it yourself because countless trips and wasted days hanging around at the dealership are only going to get you what you already knew " ITS NORMAL ".

So true (sigh)... Honestly, as long as there's a fix for it I don't really care. What scares me, in my experience, vibrations issues are never minor and can lead to catastrophic issues. Especially if this is located in the drive train.

On the other hand, if this isn't just hearsay, I really do hope Toyota is trying to figure it out.
