Hi all, I am in the market for a SR5 or TRD - 06-09 Tacoma Crew Cab. I want to get one with the tow package, however alot of people selling them don't know for sure they have them. How can I visually tell if it has the factory upgrade package with the bigger alternator, coolers etc? Any descriptions or pictures of where to look or what to look for would be great.

    Thanks!

Pop the hood - the tranny cooler is in front of the ac condenser/radiator stack, smaller, down and to the right in front. Right behind the grill, might not even need to pop the hood. That is what I would look for.

Ok cool, I will look for that, so I take it you mean on the driver side. So it looks like a mini rad then? Someone mentioned something about a purple drive shaft between the motor and the rad - if it was purple it had the tow package, if not - no package.

Oh, yeah the cowling on the fan. I noticed that mine is a very... freindly shade of purple. I didn't know if that was tow package specific, but I have it. What an odd color to do that in.

And yes it looks like a mini radiator, good way to put it.

How can the person not know what they bought? Ask them to show you their window sticker or invoice.

A lot of people think they have em because they have a tow hitch - and not the full tow package. Lots of people dont save all the stuff like they should too, this is a legit thread.

If it is a repo or lease back often that is missing, and if it is on a non-toyota lot they often don't know. Also one was a divorce - she didn't know what hubby had bought :)

Thanks for the info guys and let me know any other stuff. I'd love to know how to id the alternator - but the "mini-rad" for the tranny should be a dead give away.

I would call it the fan hub, though it might be the piece that connects the fan hub with the water pump. And yes, a very nice shade of pink in an other wise drab engine compartment. ;)

The auxiliary cooler (ATF? Engine oil?) is about 4"x10" and the top edge can be seen through the grill on the left side (your right as you face it.)

Do all of the V6s have the oil filter located op on top where it can easily be reached? I recall in the oil change thread that it was reached through the wheel well. Maybe that's on a 4 cylinder.

Ours also had a pigtail for a brake controller in the glove box. (Which is odd because the pigtails for the previous trucks I bought are on a shelf in the garage. :D)

he said that he was in the market for a truck.he didn't say new or used so he might not have the benefit of a sticker to look at.It's actually a pretty good ? Some sellers might claim to have tow pkg. & don't. there are people on this sight and others that don't even know if they have a 4 or 6 cyl.

As mentioned above, all clutches are pick regardless of package.

    Easiest way:

ATF Cooler, 7 pin trailer harness, oil cooler below the oil filter.
