Those of you with CB antennas and a shell, where did you mount it? I'm worried about my rear window hitting it.

I have hood hinge brackets for ditch lights so that wouldn't work for me unfortunately. Thanks though!

So I got my CB wiring run and mounted antenna on my lumber rack.

Mounted radio in upper console. Had to customize mounts and used 1/4" rivets to mount it.

Still need to tune it but that's a small task.

 

Awe. Look what just showed up. Wasn't supposed to arrive until Dec 7th!

 

man, I always find it so ridiculous how large CB units are considering how few electronic components are on the inside of those units and especially since remote configurations aren't allowed.

 

I was wondering the same thing! Almost bought the handheld unit just for that reason but decided to try to mount mine in upper console area. It's not really in the way, but I did have to delete overhead lights. If I don't like it after using it for a little while, I'll buy the handheld and put the upper console back in.

tbh, I'd probably do this if I could find an affordable 40+ conductor cable. Currently a 100ft spool is like $1,000.

 

Just use cat6 cable. I have a several 1000ft rolls at home.

 

No thanks. I'd rather use a single interconnect than having a bundle of six or seven cables. The other issue is cat 6 cable isn't as flexible as cat5, so it's a little tougher to manage in a bundle. To run it, it would require a quite bit more work to make sure the bundles stay together and don't get bound up.

 

You can also buy stranded 18awg or 20awg wire and build your own bundle. I've done this when I wired new harnesses for race cars. Also used fire rated (heat rated) wiring since it was mostly in engine bay. Works great and you can buy a 6' or 3' heat shrink tubing and shrink it together. Or use split loom, or other forms of "loom".

 

I've considered that, but this is wayyyyyy less work.

Looks like the 3m one is about $165 for 100ft roll. 36condusctor, but they are 28awg.. Should be fine for most of the faceplate wiring.

Yeah I wish I had the time to even think of doing a mod like this. I went with a cobra hand held unit and called it a day.

 

Hand held unit meaning a cobra75. Still had to wire it in.
