What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yeah ^ it kind of worries me lol. Ya I changed the fuel filter a little while back (without removing the plenum) but my dumb ass cheaped out on one from oreallys and I'm never using anything from them again because I did the same thing with my heater valve and it didn't even make it a month before it started leaking.

 

I got the four seasons brand heater valve and it has been pretty good. Just feels harder to move than the old one, but that's probably normal. I try not to use Orielly's brand parts but they sell some quality brands there like WIX which is a good brand for filters.

Now I feel slightly better about the fuel filter I used from them. Just slightly.

 

Did you buy the WIX brand filter or the Orielly's one?

 

Haha I saw this when I was researching fuel filter replacement but decided I would just replace it where it was at and not try to relocate it. I found a really good writeup though otherwise I don't think I could have done it.

I did mine about a year ago but otherwise I might have done this.

 

The block and head get resurfaced if you use a metal head gasket. Both surfaces have to be totally smooth for a metal gasket. This is common for boosted motors.

 

Gonna change the subject again. Are Spyder Halogen Headlights anything to look at? Seem easy enough to install (maybe not wiring). Any opinions?

 

Is the oem gasket metal?

 

No. Pretty rare for cars to come with MHG. At least till recently.

Sounds about right for a dealership. At least the complexity of the skid plate kept them from cross threading the drain plug or not tightening the filter.

 

I'm still not sure why they were trying to remove a skid plate to do an oil change in the first place...You don't have to. Providing we are talking about the 3.4 here

 

You dont need to on either engine. Can you imagine if they were tasked with a Tacoma in for a frame swap recall?

 

I've just never worked on the 4cyl before, and no kidding. I hope that dealer has never done a frame swap!

 

Haha the techs are good it's just the oil change dummies that are lazy and bone headed. And for my truck yes you need to remove the aftermarket skid that was built for it lol

 

That sounds like a major PITA. Just make yourself a hole so you can get to the drain plug.

 

I'll be doing it myself from now on! Lol is there a good write up for the 2.7 that you know of?
