    Hi all,

Have enjoyed the 2016 tacoma for barely over a week, when I walked out from work to find a dent in my left rear bumper. Looks like someone knicked it and bailed. I've ordered the part already, but is there any knowledge out there on removing the component and replacing it yourself?

I just put one of these on my Tacoma to try and avoid something like this from happening. It's cheaper than lots of the other products out there that do the same thing, is lower profile, and is made of a composite resin so it won't rust inside the receiver. It offers minimal coverage, but guest look as bad as others and will absorb a little impact at least if someone say, bumps you in a parking lot or you accidentally back into another car parking, etc.

I really like the aluminum one, but that price tag ($400, yikes!). the price difference between that and the one you have is $350, crazy.

Thanks for the tip guys, but I was actually referring to the plastic parts to either side of the component containing the hitch. In my case, it would be the left side.

Yeah, the aluminum one is crazy expensive, but I personally am not a fan of a lot of shiny stuff and thought the black looked better anyway and would absorb a small impact instead of the aluminum one transferring the impact to the hitch and frame. But this would only be for a super low speed tap. Obviously if you got rear-ended at any significant speed neither device would help all that much.

So this is what I was talking about. It's the plastic part of the bumper, the lateral most aspect. Not the center component with the hitch. Any ideas on how to remove it and replace it with a new one? Any pitfalls to look out for while doing it?

This happened to me in my tan 88 SR5 4wd pickup with under 300 miles (yep, I am old) .. Some assclown hit my front bumper in a 7-11 parking lot, I was in the store for maybe 3 minutes, came out and my blinker was hanging etc.. At least there's security cams everywhere now days, so it may be easier to catch them..
I ordered a 3rd gen a couple days ago and currently researching dash cams... I plan to set one forward and one in reverse on a loop to battery power.. I will be happy to hand video over to LE :D

The one good thing about the rear bumper on the new 3rd Gens is they are three pieces, so you'll only have to replace that section and not the entire rear bumper assembly, which still sucks, but shouldn't be such a huge hit on your wallet.

looks like a black or white car, I would check a vehicle with damage and your color on it and then make them pay for it. I dont have a 2016 but im sure that it should be an easy swap just not a cheap one probably. Just had to do tail lights because someone hit me and didn't leave a note.

    Are on the way!
Well, it's already damaged. I'd pull those plastic clips off the bottom & pull the thing off.. Can't hurt it.. Then find out how it mounts & put the new one on with a little more care! Just my .02 tho..

Bumper caps are typically held on by plastic fasteners, most of which you can just pry on.. gently. You may have to remove the center black pad to get access to the top clips. And, if any of them break, which they often do, they are a dime a dozen!

Here is a picture of a new bumper cover with the two top mounting clips and several push pin holes. Looks like the entire top bumper cover needs to come off in order to snap the top clips into place

Was reading your posts on the other thread Mannys. Post pics/vids when you switch out your bumper caps, I'm interested to see how you do it.
