    Hi all,

    I did a forum search with no luck. Anyone ever hooked up a CB radio? If so where did you place it in the cab? I'm affraid to put it on the dash. I would like more of a discrete place to put it.

    Regards,

    Do you have a CB already? If not, get a Cobra 75, very small foot print and can be hidden easily. All of the controls are on the hand set which can be tucked under the driver seat when not in use.

    Here's mine hidden behind the rear cup holder portion of the console.

    @AaronArf

    Does that piece of the console just pop off? I am looking into the Cobra 75 90% sure that is the radio I am going with. Just looking around. I like where you put the receiver box. I think that is better than under the seat. I was going to try and put it up in front behind the shifter bezel.

    What are the red wires going into the cup holder? Lights?

    Should just be held in by tabs. I also run a Cobra 75 handheld and stuck mine in the place you describe, right under the shifter bezel and more toward the cupholders. I used the little mounting plate it came with to route the mic cable out the side of plastic in that area.

    Like this: I've since added a little mount for the mic on the driver side as seen in 2nd pic. Only regret is I should have mounted the little plate further forward, since the passenger seat can hit it if slid forward.

    Too poor to list anything interesting.
    I put mine in the center console
    [IMG]

    I never put anything in there, so it works out perfectly. Plus I added an always on power for USB.

    Dremmeled out a little groove to run both the mic cable and phone cable out of the console.

    As stated it's just held on by little tabs. I have my CObra 75 in the same spot and routed the handheld into the cubby so it's completely out of site.

    @JdevTac

    I like that. I believe I have more room in front of the shifter bezel (just looking at the difference between my buddys AT and mine being MT). I am more looking at the area under the radio. Since I have no need for the cigarette lighter, I was going to see if I can run the pigtail to that location, since I have another aux. slot on the passenger side. Cig. lighter on left in pic

    yes, I have done the mods

    Hilarious - I never could figure out what the hell that little mounting plate was for - I'll probably install it in exactly the same place you did. Thanks!

    Also, semi-thread-jack, is that an FJ shifter you have? And did the threads match up? I've seen conflicting info elsewhere on the interwebs?

    Oh okay yep lots of people seem to stick them there too, just be cautious of the airbag module/wiring up underneath that cubby area (I assume it should be same for manuals), bunch of yellow wrapped wires and stuff. Your right, though you should hopefully have some more room in there since you don't have a big fat cup holder crap sitting in the way.

    I actually bought mine used and then realized I had no mounting plate so I luckily found one off a member on here!

    It is an FJ Shifter! As with all Toyota auto trans shift knobs the threads are M8x1.25 however you will have to either cut the shifter down to fit in some shape or form, or do like I did and install an M8 stud and coupler nut inside the shifter so it doesn't make contact with the plastic where the little PRND etc display is. I can link you a thread where I have some pics of what I'm talking about as far as how I modified it.

    I'm not currently running it at the moment, as it was misplaced while I installed a Mad Max skull shift knob, and now I am back to stock for the moment.

    This page has the pics of what I did, and some other pics on previous pages of what it all looks like actually mounted. Someone else did something similar to but his turned out a little knubby imo.

    I bought mine for $25 shipped on eBay with the manual shift knob too which of course I didn't need. Kind of hit or miss recently, some people want like close to dealer price for a used shift knob lol. I think they are $75 brand new if I recall correct.

    Found a really small radio and mounted it using velcro. Only put it in the truck when needed.
