Anyone hardwired their gopro?

    Then link what exactly it does because I will bet the farm it does not what you think it does. It will wipe the entire card / video and start again.

    So what happens is you set your time interval lets say 5 mins and it is now 1 x 5 min video, that's all. It will overwrite that one file and they consider that the loop.

    The Drift does continuous 5 min videos (for this example) as in multiple videos until the card fills up. Then it goes to the first 5 min video and over write that first file and continues along recording more 5 min videos. The fact it turns on automatically and shuts off is a bonus.

    So in the example of a 120 min video with gopro, its the same thing, one large file and that's it.

    I tested / tried to do this before I did the Drift setup and unfortunately the GoPro isn't exactly what most think a DVR / dash cam is. With The drift I always have 4 hours (as an example) of footage history. The GoPro is max 120 as 1 big ass large file.

    GoPro re-records over each interval that is set up. So lets say you have it set at 15 min.

    15(a) 15(b) 15(c) 15(d) *SD CARD IS NOW FULL
    15(e) 15(b) 15(c) 15(d)
    15(e) 15(f) 15(c) 15(d)
    15(e) 15(f) 15(g) 15(d)

    and so on. Does that make sense?

    Loop recording is fairly standard on most action cameras and all dash cams. What the GP can't do is auto power on and record when you start the truck. The Mobius does this so I know that it is always recording when I'm driving. What the Mobius lacks in features such as screen and wifi, it makes up for with it's tiny size. I never have to think about starting it up or having the battery drain. It's just there if/when I need it and is hardly noticeable from outside the truck.

    Leaving a GP hanging from your windshield in plain view is just begging for a smash-n-grab.

    Have you tried it? It doesn't work that way when I tested on my Hero 3 firmware 3.00 . Card said full and that was it.

    The main point I guess I would make is the Drift is so streamlined when it comes to what I would expect continuous automatic looping from a file structure. I say 5,10,15 mins it does exactly that and then loops back as you described in this post.

    Perhaps the newer ones work as you described which I should have said what I tested it on.

    awesome. That will work better. I have been trying to research some cameras that use the standard 1/4 screw mount but it seems like all the nicer dash cams use their own sliding clip mount.

    I just had a Pittasoft BlackVue HD Camera hardwired into my 2016 Limited.

    It is specifically designed to be a Dash Cam and the kit I have also includes the rear cam.

    It is Bluetooth enabled so you don't have to take the camera or memory chip out to retrieve footage, has a Parking Mode so if someone hits your car in a parking lot it comes on, has an expandable memory for more storage, records in HD, and allows you to save stuff while on the road so it does not get overwritten.

    Mounted up behind the rear view mirror with a battery saver feature and no visible cables.

    We have? I haven't heard/read/seen a incidents like this yet. I live in Hall and work in Forsyth. People here love to attempt what I call the "swoop and stop" (merge into your land and hit the brakes). In GA (as I'm sure you know) if you rear end someone, even if the driver cut you off and hit their brakes, you are liable. This happens to me all the time on 400 and I've been really considering getting on for my legal protection.

    Yes, 2 weeks ago a guy tried it in Little 5 Points to my bother's boss. Luckily she had a dash cam. The police looked at the footage and asked her if she wanted to press charges against the guy that jumped on her hood.

    I have an adhesive GoPro mount on my dash. Way easier to run a USB to it than the factory GoPro mount.

    thanks for the link. I like the idea of tapping into the mirror wire.
    I dont want a gopro though. Too expensive and begging some punk to steal it. I Just need a decent cheap dash cam that doesn't have dangling wires.

    Yeah, it was pricey but now that it is installed I am happy I went with it. You can't see it from out side, it's designed to work in high temps (Summer Sun) and the video is very good quality.

    Anyways, good luck with what ever system you choose!

    A little pricey (compared to the cheap one on eBay or wherever. Not as much as most go pros) but Compustar makes great products. Has a built in shock sensor, that will record 10 seconds before and after impact. So if your truck gets hit in a parking lot or someone breaks into it you'll have footage. So it could easily pay for itself.
