I have it at freeway speeds with a crosswind. Our regional master techs coming in on the 22nd to fix it. I was told they have a working fix for it, although not a formal TSB. He's going to work on one of the lot trucks that apparently has the issue when it was test driven, and once its fixed, call me in to have mine fixed the same way. Fingers crossed, and i'll have an update for you all. Definitely not as bad as my 2nd gen's whistling which was never actually fixed before i traded it in, but still quite bothersome.

It is most certainly not "driveline harmonics" mine occurs from 30-45ish mph, when there is a strong wind it will occur at 15-20 mph, it adjust as the wind blows. Toyota stating its driveline harmonics is very discouraging.

Make sure you let us know what the fix is or what they are even looking at. I have this "issue" as well. I just saw on the driver side access cab door that the seal isn't sealing nicely against the cab when closed. It basically is folded down on the bend in the one section so I know the deal isn't awesome. I am not thinking its related but it's a possibility.

It appears that there is a newly released Service Bulletin addressing this 'howl' issue, I had my dealer look at it and he knew what I was talking about even before I could finish my description. The service mgr. stated the the Toyota Field Tech had repaired a truck with this exact problem just the day before. Well I picked my truck up tonight, my invoice states 'Toyota Field Tech adjusted doors Per Service Bulletin'. All the way home from the dealership there was no noise present any longer. I will keep close attention to this and report if the noise comes back.

see i knew they had some sort of fix. And i only say i trusted my dealership, because the mechanics with new 16s were pissed it was happening on their truck which is why the master tech was scheduled to visit so soon.

Door adjustment is making sense to me. See my post #41 Whistle in 16 Tacoma

I have noticed that my passenger side door closes nicely and sounds nice when it closes.
My driver side on the other hand has a peculiar sound when being closed.
It just doesn't sound right. Sounds like a cheap car door if that makes any sense.
Probably just a little out of alignment.

Wonder if the Toyota Field Techs only know about this and/or are the only ones that can perform this fix?

Boy, if it is just a door adjustment, that would be good news. If anyone was a copy of the bulletin and could share it, that would be great.

(I have never noticed my drivers door sounding different than the passenger when I close it. It closes nice, have had the wind noise since day 1)

Ive never understood why TSB's are essentially off limits to the general public unless you pay/subscribe etc. Its like if we had them easily accessible, you know how quick some of these issues would be resolved.

    Update*

Well, I am sad to report, that after some extensive driving today I was able to detect the whistle/howl again, a few days after the supposed fix I reported. Granted, the howl is definitely much more subtle and quite difficult to hear, but in the correct situations I can still make it out. Driving in traffic, it seems, around other cars I can not detect the sound. It was not until tonight, when I was the only car on the road that I could make out the howl within the wind noise. Seems to me, the sound is best heard from near the drivers side mirror, and heard best with the window only down about 1 inch or so. Otherwise the slight howl is drowned out by the normal wind noises.

My opinion is that this sound is caused by not the door or truck body itself, but the shape of the mirror. I believe that the air traveling over the top and around the outside edge of the mirror are causing particular vortices behind the glass portion and that disturbance of air is what we are hearing. If this is true, a smallish splitter/defuser should fix the problem. I may try and look into making something smallish on the 3d printer that I can apply to multiple positions on the edge of the mirror with double side tape and see what that does.

Like I said earlier, I wonder if its coming from those new aerodynamic fins they placed on the mirrors. Still have the problem and like the rest, still waiting for a solution.

Somebody with the issue, just wrap both mirrors in hand towel or similar object, duct tape it around the mirrors and see if the sound goes away. Yeah, you'll look ridiculous driving around like that for 10-15 minutes but it's for the good of the group!

Surely not the problem with my 05 MINI, it howls terribly due to the seal around the window, goes away if I crack my window even a millimeter or crack the sunroof open the same amount. I really should have that window seal replaced but I look at it as giving the car character. hahaha

Don't the mirrors fold in? Try folding them in and see if it makes a difference. I may have one of the quiet ones, but I never drive around with the window down.

I did another "listen test" yesterday with different window positions and recirc settings and I cannot duplicate the noise folks are reporting. Mine sounds as quiet or better than my 06.

Had a Toyota tech ride with me today. He clearly heard the noise and agreed it is an issue. He's going to contact Toyota.

    No solution as of yet.

How can it be "normal" if only a percentage of trucks are experiencing the issue ? I've only had mine for 5 days but I've been driving it at various speeds with the stereo turned off to listen for any sign of it... so far, none. Many others do not have it either. So "normal"... no.
