Make sure you replace your alternator with one with a higher current rating. I would recommend the largest you can find (probably 160 Amps). Your amp and winch are probably to blame for the failure. Typically the voltage regulator or the diodes in an alternator get fried when you exceed its capacity. You might also think about getting a capacitor for your amp that would be run in parallel with the battery. Caps can react much faster than the battery can and will help supply current to the amp for a 1/2 second or so when a heavy bass note hits.

Ouch. That's even more reason to get the biggest alternator you can find. ;)

Hey guys, hope you haven't all bailed on this thread yet....Found the problem why my alternator wasn't charging and no battery warning light on. Dang blown fuse at the cabin fuse block. It's a ten amp mini with it's position labeled IGN1. I replaced it and bingo...charging at 14.1 idling. 50 cent POS almost wrecked Christmas and weekend. No one had an alternator, not even the dealer should I have needed one. I will upgrade to Quality Power's 180 amp job soon just in case. I put the new battery in...all is WELL (for a couple minutes anyway)!

Glad to hear you solved the problem, a blown fuse was certainly not my guess.
