    After you do the front you'll say it wasn't too bad..just seems like it will be hard. The one thing tho on the front diff. The breather and little vacuum lines should go on as soon as the diff is in position while it is still loose...

    So my rear ring just broke today. My question is if i get a complete 3rd memeber from ecgs and install it will i have to worry about backlash and shims and a master install kit with all new bearings? Ive never messed with a rear differential before

    No the complete third is bolt in. You'd only have to deal with all that if you were setting up the ring gear on the diff. ECGS does the hard work for you. Not too bad of a job just pulling and installing complete third.

    Great write up! Didn't get the correct gearing I wanted but at least I can drive the taco. Here are some pics of how bad the ring and pinion was. Hardest part was bending the brake lines, super sketch!image.jpgimage.jpg

    Could be that you need to pull your axles out a little more to free up the 3rd.

    I've got them out more than a deep 3/4" socket on both sides. Not much more to go.

    All I'm saying is that I also used a deep socket and I still had to have someone pull the axles out more. Just sharing what worked for me on a 2nd gen. Don't do it if you think you're going to break something on your truck.

    Maybe I'm just going to have to detach the brake lines. Probably should change the fluid anyway.

    It was the stud rusted to the flange inside the hole.

    Tried a rubber mallet. Tried a small hand sledge hammer. Ended up carefully prying with a flat prybar. Figured if i kept it outboard of the studs I could file off any ridges and I'd be fine.

    THis was after multiple iterations of PB Blaster + heat + cold.
