Also happy fucking NYE! I have two goals.

1. Make baby taco more badass (I know...that's a tough task)

2. Dress like an adult.

Baby taco is throwing such a hissy fit. My battery died today.

 

Looked under the hood again and it appeared that my coolant is low now.

 

You should get your oil analyzed by blackstone. They can tell if there is coolant in the oil (head gasket) and what other junk is floating around in there. If you get a clean bill of health, you know it's nothing serious. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

 

Smart! I ordered the free test kit and will send it back whenever it arrives.

Finally got to drive the truck around a bit since the new PCV valve. I haven't checked the current oil level but it should be close to full since I drove less than 20 miles since the problems occurred. Everything feels fine and sounds fine. I had a very distinct exhaust smell right before everything took a shit and it was present for the first part of the drive and then stopped. My guess was that is the the oil being burned off. I put a new battery in and it is starting much better. The stock batter has been slowly dying for about 2 weeks now. I would watch my headlights flicker and wondered how much longer it had.

After a nap I will go refill the coolant and then pick up a thing of seafoam to run through.

 

Hey brother, I was reading through your thread looking for more info on the ORIs (I'm thinking of running 'em on my 4 cyl AC) when I ran across your oil problem. Here's a good thread on the adding of a catch can. There's a few pics and diagrams on how I did mine as well as a few other members.

The can I used has a small dipstick you can check periodically, some others have a clear sight glass type gauge on them. After about 5000 miles my can had about 2 or 3 fluid ounces of oil in it.

 

Also for what it's worth, regarding Seafoam, I agree with what Sacrifice said on the previous page. There is a local mechanic in my neighborhood that used it once on a customers car and it was somehow detrimental to the engine. I forget exactly what happened in that case but like Sacrifice said the Seafoam can loosen dirt and gunk and can cause other issues like clogged injectors or even oil passages. I don't have first hand experience with that product but you may want to do much research and read as many custom experiences as possible before using it.

I have been reading on it and it seems like a lot of the problems come from people not using it properly (putting to much in). I am going to get the spray kind which I guess is a safer method and try that. Also picking up new spark plugs and will change those out tomorrow. Curious to see how they look.

 

Right on. Instructions are important. One time with my old 91 toyota pickup I used some Bars Leak to fix a leaky radiator because I didn't have the money for a new one. Following the philosophy of some is good, more is better, too much is just enough I used almost the whole bottle. Instructions said use half bottle for 4 cylinder engines, but what do they know, right? The leak stopped but of course I would find out later that winter that the extra Bars Leak plugged up my heater core! It was a cold few weeks driving to work before I could change it! Lesson learned on instructions.

My oil can bracket was just a piece of 1/8" aluminum bent in a bench vise. I first made a paper template to get the rough shape. In retrospect I should have mounted it elsewhere because the can is a pain to unscrew and empty, but I only have to do it like once a year. I might move it up to the core support sometime, 4 cyl trucks have a lot of room on the passenger side next to the window washer tank if I recall.

That one is the one closest to the cab. Looked at the intake really well and it looks like it has a nice coating of very fine dust. No huge chunks but still something

 

If its that bad something is wrong with that cylinder. Either a valve seal or rings.
