while spending the weekend at the river, I found myself hauling 700 lbs of
ass or asses ( well, both )on the tailgate as they sat down I could only imagine ( after all the bad things I have heard ) all 3 of my friends falling to the ground as it broke. But it did fine....whew..how embarrissing would that have been. I assume they bend or delaminate, or are they now ok..?

Check the TSB and see if yours was built before or after they starting building the trucks with the better tailgate. Mine was after, thank goodness.

Check you vin# against the above TSB. If it is a higher number than 5TE###2N#8Z485818 for your truck model you should be good.

If what part of the number is higher? could you please underline the section? Also, are these TSB's done for free?

The above link is for all models of 08's. I'm not sure what model of truck you have for lack of information. Prerunner, ect. Just open the link and find your model. The number on the TSB is where in production the change was made, if your vin.# is higher you should be good. Also FYI the 5's are made in CA and the 3's are made in Mexico.

Well sorta....apparently it cant be fixed until it is broken first. So you will have to load something heavy on the tailgate first to create the problem, then it can be fixed, lol.

I know but this took off in an ugly direction awhile back.

This is an International Forum by membership. Hell we even let those frostbutt Canadians in.

That ought to get the Master fired up. ;)

TRD Toyota rugged trail off road package.
572xxx and all seems good here with 600 lbs regularly going on and off this tailgate.
