Valentine 1 to GoPro mount 2016 TRD Offroad

I wanted to post one method of using the factory installed GoPro mount for a Valentine 1
Please disregard if this subject has already been beat to death.
I bought a bag of GoPro replacement parts from BestBuy for $20 and found this useful part.

I used the base part:
Disassembled and aligned with the sun visor mount from Valentine. Drilled three holes.
Assembled with #4-40 hardware.
On the Valentine 1.
Slipped into the GoPro windshield mount. Waiting for the Invisicord RJ11 to arrive.

That's awesome! Is the angle of V1 good to catch radar/laser signals from the front and back? How do you plan on wiring it?

 

You could probably run a mirror tap over to it. I run one with my bendmount.

 

I've been using the Savvy with one of their long cords for some time now. Plugs into the odbII port, then I ran the cord just tucked into panel running up at the side of the windshield, then tucked into the front of the headliner over to the mirror area. I like the gopro mount idea, have been a little miffed at the space around the mirror not being friendly with suction cups.

Awesome job! I'm also curious if the unit is level. As for hardwiring, I ordered this and am waiting for it to show up. It might also work for you too. @DRJ1014 showed this little gem to me.

Do cops still use radar in some areas? Where I am it seems all the traffic enforcement is done with laser

 

Radar detectors are useless, I'm surprised anyone still buys/has one. All it does is let you know you just got tagged.

 

I was thinking about doing this with my Escort x8500, and yes radar detectors are still quite useful, and most radar detectors today have laser detection.

 

It is true that the police in major areas use laser and are very good at it. While traveling it seems highway patrol uses radar still and sometimes within metro areas the cops running laser will leave their radar on which obviously works to my advantage. The V1 is, in my experience, fantastic at detecting laser. I've detected it before and know for a fact the cop wasn't targeting me. Generally you can just ride behind someone and let them be your rabbit. Sure I use to speed a bit but never over 10mph over limit. Nowadays, I'm just not as concerned with arriving 3 minutes ahead of when I normally would if speeding. I just like to use it as a tool so that I can run with the most knowledge of what's ahead of me as possible.

 

Unless you live in one of the 17? states that don't require a front license plate, if you get tagged with laser they know your speed. That's big flat reflective license plate is a big advantages for traffic enforcement with laser.

 

That is very true. Thankfully I live in a state that doesn't require it. I also currently drive a little black coupe with zero chrome up front. When my truck comes in, that big chrome grill might make it easier for the cops...

 

I've had a Valentine 1 since they came out. Can't even begin to tell you how many $$$$ it has saved me. You just have to know how radar and cops work, but I used to be one. ;-)

 

What exactly is that piece (no experience with GoPro) and where might I order one??

 

It's just a standard GoPro base mount. Check eBay or Amazon.

 

That is really cool how you made that mount. I was brainstorming ways I could use the GoPro mount for my V1 too. Did you end up channeling the cable down to the ODB port for the Savvy connector, or just using a short pig tail and tapping into the source power in the overhead?

If you channeled the wires, did you have any difficulties with the side airbags in the A pillars?

 

V1 Plus a Concealed Display where it needs to be.

 

Also, does it inhibit the passenger side visor from going down all the way?

 

Hmmmm, I may have to pull that thing out again, didn't like using it in my last car, but that looks pretty good.
