Tundra recall due to excessive frame rust...hmmmm

interesting....only affects 2000 to 2003 but I wonder if it will drift over to tacomas.

 

I think the Tacomas had rust problems much worse than that. I'm sure that salt on the roads play a big part because where I live there is no snow and we have a lot of 1st gen Tacomas and Tundras on the road but I have never heard any talk about excessive frame rust.

 

Makes sense considering they probably used the same steel and processes as they did with the Tacoma. Nothing surprising about this at all. Why is it posted in this forum?

I hate seeing stuff like this, just when you buy a new one. The Tacoma seems to have lots of issued Toyota has been working out since 2005. I hear the new Tacoma is due out in 2012, guess they will do it all again.

 

Its no surprise. They have been struggling with this since the early 1980s. I don't know what the deal is.

I put 3 coats on epoxy primer on the bottom of mine. Each spring it will get the treatment. Thats the only thing we can do. I live in Ohio and its brutal here as far as salt goes.

My wifes Sequioa looks like a 30 year old truck on the bottom. It was 18,000 miles on it.

We will see how my Tacoma does. Everyone told me not to buy toyotas in the salt belt because of the rust. I thought "surely they have it figured out by now".

What the hell? I think your pics would prevent anyone from buying another toyota again. That is REALLY too bad.

 

i had it checked at the dealer, they said its not weak in any spots, its all surface so there is nothing to be done at this point. so i coated it with that stuff in my thread, seems to help a bit, im sure it will need a top coat every once in a while

 

Looks like you are on top of it then. That coating you put on looks like nothing is getting past it.

 

we love salt in ohio. if traction on highway is not 100% people complain instead of driving carefully. I was lucky, my 08 was "ziebarted" including the inside of frame rails.
man it would be nice to live out west where salt is only used to season my fries!

 

Oh yeah. I cringe when I go through an intersection and there is a pile of salt.

Cool Im just north in Powell.

Powell does a great job with the roads but that just means more salt. I don't know why they do it. Everyone in the damn city has a gigantic 4x4 suv.

They should just stick to sand and snowplows.

No crap man. They try all sorts of stuff. Spraying brine, salt, calcium. I would't be surprised if they start just spraying nails all over the road.
