For those running Total chaos Weld-on Spindle Gussets with swaybar, what is the max wheel backspacing you can run?

I have 4.75 BS with 35x12.50's and its about as close I would go.

Edit - more info: 17x8.5" wheels and I have NOT tested this with a factory sway bar. (Can't imagine that would change anything because end links are mounted on the inside of the spindle but...)

Total Chaos Weld on Gussets with Swaybar Compatibility, 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx, Stealth Custom Series F5 with 3.5 Back Spacing.

    I have plenty of clearance.

Based on what I have read in your build thread my setup probably wont help you but I figured I would post anyway for reference and try to get some pictures of the clearance as well.

Just out of curiosity why gusset the knuckles? Ive seen them advertised but always thought it was a good idea to leave them as the sacrificial "weak link" (and easy to replace) suspension component. I think limping home on a bent knuckle is a possibility whereas other failure components may be more problematic. Not criticizing your idea here, am honestly just looking for a bit of education.

I thought about this too when I was doing my front suspension rebuild. In the end I decided I just needed to make it all stronger. That being said, a slightly bent spindle could cause problems while being difficult to diagnose. These make sure that doesn't happen. I read a thread on one of the FJ forums where a guy was having all sorts of front end issues and went through a number of things trying to diagnose it. In the end he found that it was a slightly bent spindle.

I have the Total Chaos gussets that allow me to run the sway bar, 1.5" spacers, and factory sport alloys - 5.5" backspace - now and will remove the spacers and mount rock monsters - 4.5" back space - later this week.

I have the 17" 5 spoke, called the TRD Sport wheels on the taco, came on my SR5 4R, with a .25" spacer and the sway gussets. So 17x7.5 w/ 5.25" BS, and a 265. They are reaaaly close, but beat on them in Moab for a week and the only rubbing I see on the gusset is from mud being drug up.

Really doesn't take much to bend spindles. Even reinforced I'd imagine they'll still be the weak link, especially with aftermarket Uniball UCA/LCA.

@slimwoodshady bent his just going through the golden crack in moab without enough finesse. Had to drive home with a jacked up unalignable alignment. Lol

For whatever reason, the aftermarket has declined to produce a fully fabricated spindle/knuckle (for 4WD). Therefore if you bend one, which is not hard to do, you end up paying over $300 at a Toyota parts counter, or trying to find someones take offs.

Bump for more input. There has got to be some folks running these with 16" wheels. :D

the way the sway bar gussets line up, i believe you need more BS than the non-sway bars...

I've been in touch with Total Chaos. They are unsure if my wheel choice (4runner limited wheel 16x7", 4.5"BS) will work with the sway bar version of gussets.

They have offered to test fit one of my wheels, by bolting one up to a knuckle that they have in their office. But they are 100 miles away...

pick up a set of 1/4" spacers from wheelers in case you need a touch more space...it'll be close and the 1/4" might push you out far enough... not the ideal situation, but it can get you off the spindle until you figure out a permanent solution
